Horse Races at Lehigh University I want to major in Finance at Lehigh University since the school has one of the best and most intensive business programs in the United States. Being a small university with 70 undergraduate programs proffers a number of cross disciplinary programs. I believe that this expansive and varied learning environment is what I need to help build my standpoint to face the ever changing world. Due to the small class size, a close interaction between the students and the faculty is possible, which makes it a proactive environment. Being a Taiwanese, who has spent part of his life in Shanghai, China, gives me first hand information of the widely touted future the “Finance Center” of Asia is building upon. It has made me realize the importance of having knowledge in business, particularly in the area of finance. During high school, I learned that through my economics, calculus, and other mathematics-related classes, business plays a crucial role in any country’s economy. An old Chinese proverb states, “Money is not everything, but without money nothing can be done.” Currently I am a freshman at the Villanova Business School. I believe in moving forward, taking up challenges whether they are academic, social or related to my abilities. I will use my experiences to augment my skills and to excel, given the Lehigh spirit, “Challenge great minds, inspiring great imaginations.” I have learnt that at your university, students and teachers of various cultures are incorporated, and that it has adequate multiplicity and wherewithal to lodge distinction and persuade individualization. I belong to a culturally diverse family and this will help me fit in easily. Another aspect which makes Lehigh University more appealing to me is that the College of Business and Economics puts forward the inimitable learning opportunities to attain my roadmap and augment my skills. I have found the courses in this field to be exciting and that the careers related to finance at Lehigh University are well known. Many companies hire business students from the university and furthermore, the school offers work study or co-op prospects. Lehigh University also provides a wide range of business clubs and volunteer and social service opportunities. I will definitely contribute to these prefect chances your institution offers and learn from them during the process of involvement. Studying at Lehigh University will help me fulfill my goals and objectives in life to become a highly-skilled specialist as an investment analyst. After college, I intend to become an investment or business analyst in the United States, at the Wall Street Journal. I believe that this dream will not be far from my reach if am blessed and fortunate enough to be accepted at Lehigh University. It will help me open the doors into the Chinese commerce which is becoming a world-wide competitor. I want to move forward, taking up challenges whether they are academic, social or related to my abilities. I will use this knowledge to augment my skills and to prove that the Lehigh University spirit continues to stands tall, “Challenge great minds, inspiring great imaginations.” I am a disciplined person. I start and finish tasks before or on their due dates. I work independently and as a team member. Being an international student and speaking Mandarin, Cantonese, and English gives me the opportunity to do research using primary sources under the guidance of your faculty. Given that I am aware of the differences and similarities of people from different countries I will be in a position to not only translate verbatim but I will also take into consideration the culture, customs, traditions, and history during this process. This will make me an asset to the faculty members that are conducting international research. The bottom line for any company is to be cost effective. International businesses have been taking these elements into consideration for over two decades so as to not have transactions fail as with the soft Coca-Cola drink in Thailand, the powdered Nestle milk in Africa, and the NOVA automobile in Venezuela. We do not want history to repeat itself. I have clear goals and objectives. I am pro diversity. I hope Lehigh University gives me the opportunity to be part of its undergraduate program so that I may achieve my goals and objectives. Being part of your institution will allow me to open doors in the future and make you proud that I was once, one of your undergraduate students. To conclude, I want to leave you with a part of wisdom that Mark Twain shared, “It were not best that we should all think alike; it is difference of opinion that makes horse races.” Read More
