Lesson Plan Lesson plan Intermediate Level (4th-8th-Grade Levels) Research And Evidence Based Objectives The teacher ought to observe the following under this model: There are four key component areas of reading, and they include phonics, alphabetic, fluency (the ability to read accurately, with prosody, and at an appropriate rate), comprehension and vocabulary. The strengths and weaknesses of the learner ought to be assessed in each of the four components. The instructions ought to be based on assessment of the results. The teacher should prepare the instructions in a systematic, direct, sequenced, and explicit manner. The teacher ought to prepare the instructions and materials in an engaging and relevant way to benefit the students. The teacher ought to continuously monitor the instructions, so as to rate its effectiveness. Students will understand that: The focus of students should be helped to master reading strategies that enhance reading skills. Further, vocabulary instructions should be based on the corpus of high frequency, and high quality words that students will find to be meaningful in a variety of contexts. Words such as recognize, analyze, and transform encompass a myriad of applications, and learners will encounter them in a plethora of materials across content zones. Assessment: The instructions start with the assessment of the learners’ needs based on the four components of reading. The teacher should identify the mastery of the learners, as well as the instructional levels, and then review the results with learners. Using the assessment results, the teacher will create a reader profile to identify students with similar needs, or similar instructional levels. Teaching procedure The teacher will teach through explanation, by encouraging students to observe, by guided practice with feedback, and by encouraging them to apply what they have learnt. Lesson plan 2: High school Aligned With College And Career Expectations. Objectives Standards set for students should aim at preparing the students graduating from high school to go to the college level. Teachers, parents, and students ought to have a clear understanding of what is required of them. The standards should be anchored on international standards to ensure students are competitive in the global market. Standards define the rigorous requirements for students joining college. The standards encompass rigorous content as well as the application of knowledge through high-order skills. Students should understand: Students ought to balance the conceptual understanding, as well as the procedural fluency. Modeling of the concepts should be done consistently throughout the grade levels. Lower grades enhance a firm foundation upon which the later stages are going to be based. Assessment: Assessment of is left to the state, who through the consortiums guide the initiation of new models of assessing the readiness of students to colleges. The objective should be to create assessment systems and supporting models that will lead high number of graduates joining college education. Teaching method: Teacher should continue to his/her scope and sequence to realize individual requirements of students. Lesson plan 3: College To Prepare Students Based On Informed-Knowledge From Other Well-Performing Countries In Readiness For Global Needs Objectives Nearly 60% of the students that enroll in colleges drop out soon after entry. Remedial courses do not earn much credit in college. A lot of money is wasted for drop out students. Increase the number of college graduates in the coming years. Students to understand: Students should learn to effectively communicate by synthesizing and transmitting ideas in both oral and written format. Students to learn on how to make decisions and how to make appropriate actions. Students to effectively communicate with others. Students to learn the art of persistence no matter how difficult is the task. Students to use mastered skills to solve world problems. Assessment: Teacher should put more emphasis on writing skills. Teacher to increase text complexity. Escalate informational text reading. Teaching method: Teacher to prepare students to think and reason in a global way. Teacher to set clear and rigorous career readiness by demanding students apply concepts to real issues affecting the world. Part II Educational standards require that teachers ensure that their students have acquired the right skills and knowledge that will prepare them in the subsequent grades or careers in their lifetime. The selection of the above instructional models is guided by the benefit they bring to the general preparation of students. Research and evidence based instruction model is preferred because of its insistence of basing knowledge on the tenets of research and evidence. This model is prepares students to learn the art of substantiating their knowledge with empirical evidence and research. On the other hand, Aligned with college and career expectations-model is preferred because of its guidelines that are meant to prepare students to life after high school (Sloven, 2013). Finally, to prepare students based on informed-knowledge from other well-performing countries in readiness for global needs; is essential because of what it aims at preparing the students to meeting the expectations of the global economy (Canyon View Elementary, 2014). Meeting the diverse needs of learners within the three instructional models requires the teacher to exhibit the following: On Research and evidence based instruction model, the teacher ought to teach through explanation, by encouraging students to observe, by guided practice (Bell &Dolainski, 2005). For Aligned with college and career expectations, the teacher should continue to his/her scope and sequence to realize individual requirements of each student. Finally, the teacher ought to set clear and rigorous career readiness by demanding students to apply concepts to real issues affecting the world. This will effectively align the student with the demands of the global world. Evaluation of the effectiveness of the unit of study will depend on the outcome of the set out objectives. Each instructional model has its own objectives, and once they are met at the end of the course, it will automatically mean that the unit was effective. In conclusion, lesson plan is an essential tool of preparing how to achieve the set out objectives in a given unit. Nevertheless, this concept is not as simple as it might look.
