IRIS Module FBA due School-based example of; Positive reinforcement When the teacher praised the preschool student who likes playing and socializing with others, his behavior is reinforced. The boy in turn increases his playing and socializing with others. Another example is that when we were young in school, we all liked when we get a sticker for our good job. If teachers praise and give the students small gifts for a good job, that would motivate them. Negative punishment when a student misbehaves, a teacher gives him a time-out.

He is also sent to the principal’s office because of his misconduct.2. Benefits of conducting an FBA to address problem behaviorsFirst, through FBA, teachers are able to determine the cause of students’ behaviors. Teachers are then in a position to help the affected student in coming up with a more socially acceptable behavior to meet his or her needs as well as fit into the class environment and culture. Second, FBA can determine students’ inappropriate behavior functions. In this way, teachers can create intervention plans that are more effective to stop the behavior.3. A-B-C analysis form on Kira I think the function of Kira’s behavior is to bring an interruption the teacher’s lesson.

She answers during class and makes her classmates laugh. By doing this, she aims at capturing their attention instead of the students listening to the teacher.4. Measurement system would you use to collect data on Nigel's problem behaviors I would conduct an A-B-C analysis. This would help me in identifying the antecedents (A) that create the problem behavior (B) and the consequences (C) of the behavior.5. Function of the behavior and developing a hypothesis statement Sensory Simulation and having a quiet time help Nigel in maintaining his behavior.

He feels comfortable being alone. We can implement an intervention that can help decrease the problem behavior once we identify the function of maintaining the behavior. 6. The objective of the function-based intervention This intervention did not work well with Nigel. If I were the teacher, I would stop using such kind of intervention. The graph shows increased inappropriate behavior. I would immediately stop the intervention, but if I have a modification to it, I would try it. 7. Evaluating an unsuccessful intervention To identify if the plan is working, the team uses intervention data analysis.

This analysis also helps the team to determine whether they need to make any changes. Two factors can help me in knowing if the intervention was unsuccessful. First, the intervention was not effective because the desired behavior did not increase while the undesired behavior increased. Second, to determine the success of the intervention, the team will compare the intervention data and the baseline data. The intervention is unsuccessful if the undesired behavior does not improve.
