The course Academic Communication in the English languageI had enrolled for the English Second Language program last semester before I could start my Bachelor’s degree this semester. My first challenge was to advance my writing skills from the Diploma level to a level suitable for a Bachelor’s degree program especially because English is my second language. The three essays that I wrote during this course was a challenge because the style of writing taught in the English Second Language program differed to a great extent from the writing that I was introduced to in this course.

Going through the Academic Communication cures taught me a lot of useful concepts in English language. Most importantly, Academic Communication cures program has taught me how to write a research paper, how to write an argumentation research, and how to link my ideas with the topic that I focus on. Because of Academic Communication cures, I feel that my ability to deliver effective research papers has improved. Looking back, I struggled so much to write my ideas and points in a cohesive and appropriate manner in my first essay.

In fact, because of frequent mistakes, I cannot remember the number of mistakes I made in that first essay at the beginning of this course. However, by week two, we had already discussed so much on plagiarism, APA style and citation rules and much more. We had also read an article titled, “An Enviro’s Case for Seal Hunt,” to help us in research writing which helped in avoiding plagiarism in writing.I also learnt about argumentative writing which allows writers to show their opinion and thoughts.

In this case, writers can use many sources to support their arguments. I have learned how to support a logical argument in a perfect manner. This enabled me to write an argumentative research paper for my second essay which argued that Ontario colleges and universities should abolish tuition fees. However, I faced challenges analyzing the work of another author so as to clarify and perfect my ideas.Of the three essays, the third was the hardest to me. Prior to this essay, I could not link my ideas to the topic that my professor asked us to read from the book because the topics were very complex.

However, the corrections given to me by my instructor were really helpful in improving my spelling and grammar and writing better papers with better ideas.In conclusion, I have chosen the first and third research papers from my portfolio for the Academic Communication cures. I chose these essays and omitted the second research because the themes of these essays were very easy and they had few mistakes, making it easier for me to correct them. Additionally, I am really proud of my performance on these papers.

I put down my points on the papers properly and correctly according to assignment instructions. I feel that the Academic Communication cures course benefited my skills as an international business student. Moreover, it has increased my confidence such that I can write a paper on any topic and cite and format it correctly. I feel confident about writing effectively in future after taking this class. I am also more confident to write using various research styles in diverse fields.
