Arabic Language and English Language Introduction In order to know the difference between the way information and narrative writing are presented in Arabic language and English language, it is essential for us to know the basic differences between both the languages. Arabic is the official language in numerous nations, incorporating Egypt, Iraq, Libya, Saudi Arabia and Morocco. Arabic is likewise the language of the Koran, so Muslims of all nationalities, for example, Indonesians, are acquainted with it. There are numerous Arabic lingos, however there is one form that is taught in schools and utilized by the media over the Arab world. Arabic is from the Semitic language family, subsequently its grammar is altogether different from English. There is an expansive potential for lapses of impedance when Arab learners produce composed or spoken English. Arabic has a three consonant root as its premise. All words (parts of speech) are shaped by joining the three-root consonants with altered vowel designs and, in some cases, an affix. Arab learners may be befuddled by the absence of examples in English that might permit them to recognize nouns from verbs or descriptive words, and so forth. The Arabic sentence is generally separated into two primary parts: the column and the supplement (extra), if any. The writer’s pattern of communication with the readers While proceeding towards the comparison in details it is necessary to first shed some light on the definition of culture as defined by Geert Hofstede. According to the cultural dimensions premises acknowledged by Geert Hofstede, the westernized nations like the United States, Australia, United Kingdom, etc. creates the individualist bunch and is placed at one severe end of the band whilst the Asian nations such as Pakistan, Hong Kong, India, Thailand, etc. forms the collectivist bunch and is placed at the other intense end of the range. The western countries do not have strong cultural values while the Asian nations are strongly bound to their culture. Here culture represents things like family bonding, respect for elders, sticking to morals and ethics etc. Hofstede stated that the general populace of a region experiences a countrywide culture that is known as National Culture. The phrase “National Culture” implies the single culture representing the whole country that helps in the cultural discrimination of the citizens of one country from the citizens of another country. Now as it becomes clear in which ways National culture can affect an individual, it is essential for us to know the significance of culture on writing patterns. Since Arab is a high- context culture oriented nation, therefore among the writings of this culture, the meaning of the writing becomes more significant than the code. The writers of this language provide with information to their readers which contain contextual cues. According to Halls, “most of the information is in the physical context or internalized in the person, while very little is in the coded, explicit, transmitted part of the message” (Zaharna 1995). Thus it is expected from a high-context culture writer to speak or write around a point and not being specific about the message. Since the details are provided in the context and not in the message, therefore these writer put more emphasis on the contextual part of the writing and involves the reader’s thinking abilities to remain engrossed to the text/information presented. On the other hand since most of the English speaking countries and the English writers belong to low-context culture therefore their focus remains specifically on the message rather than on the context. Here the readers go through the text and understands it easily without much brainwork. Another significant difference could be identified between the Arabic writers and the English writers that clearly originate from their patterns of indirect vs. direct communication style. The English writers prefer a direct and clear communication with the readers. This style refers to presentation of facts, expectations and techniques which provides the readers with the real life stories and evidences that attracts the reader’s interest. On a contrary, the Arabic writers are much into emotional and indirect communication. There texts often omit the factual evidences but keeps the readers emotionally attached to the writing. This proves to be effective in attracting the mind of the readers, as was rightly expressed by Levine, “By alluding to shared experiences and sentiments, verbal associations can express and evoke a wealth of affective responses” (Zaharna 1995). A further distinction between the Arabic writers and the English writers can be traced from their value orientation. The English orientation emphasizes on achieving and the Arabic orientation focuses on being. Thus the readers of the English texts comes in contact with visible accomplishments of the protagonist while the Arabic readers find much more focus on the family and background of the protagonist. Conclusion In the conclusion it can be stated that the English language and the writers consider communication as a means of conveying information and thus attempts to present it accurately while the Arabic language tends to relate communication with the art of their culture and as an “identity tool” (Zaharna 1995). Thus it can be concluded that the readers of the English texts relate themselves with the writing/information in a logical manner and the Arabic texts make the reader relate themselves with the writing in an emotional way.
