Extract of sample "Lesson Planning for Water Conservation Course"

Students will start learning the value of water and natural resources at an early age, which is beneficial for them and society. The objectives of the lesson plan include focusing on the values of responsibility, care, compassion, respect, and sustainability. The key learning areas here include art, society & environment, and science.
Activities

Activity 1: Thinking about water
The first activity includes thinking about water in a session. Students can think and generate questions on the topic such as: What is water? Where does it come from? How it is stored and used? Is there enough availability of water for humanity?
Questions like these can certainly generate a lot of curiosity among children and help them in knowing its value and appropriate use. The thinking session will be followed by questions and queries discussed by students among themselves. They will be asked to write their ideas on the board.

Activity 2: Use of water
This activity asks students to identify ways of using water resources. Several pictures and short movies are shown to students and questions are asked based on water usage, responsible usage, and conservation of water.

Activity 3: Exploration of water usage on the school campus
Students are to visit the school campus and ask to note down the ways of water usage on a sheet of paper. Students will come to know the overall water usage from different sources such as drink taps, kitchen, gardening water, staff rooms, and toilets. After this, they will categorize all that they have seen inside the school campus.

Assessment
The curriculum will move ahead with two activities covered in the appropriate number of sessions, followed by their assessments. There will be weekly assessments, including both written and practical evaluations of what they have learned. The student's evaluation will judge their understanding of the subject of water and natural resource consumption (Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations, 2012).

Conclusion
I would adopt this lesson plan as I find it appropriate to be taught to the students of classes 6th to 8th. This plan is accurate and deals with all the issues related to the subject. It goes with the required approach that can help students in looking at natural resources, such as water, responsibly. The objectives in the lesson plan could be more precise. Focused objectives are necessary for student learning (Kubyszin and Borich, 1993). Clarifying the objectives of each lesson will result in a more focused learning activity for students. While more focused objectives would be an improvement, my overall feeling about this lesson plan is that it will be very effective. Read More
