Extract of sample "The Necessity of Coed Classes"

The Necessity of Coed Classes Classess between boys and girls should not be separated. Mixing boys and girls in a class provide each gender a perspective and understanding about the other gender giving them a holistic learning not only about the subjects being taught in the class, but also on how to better interact with the opposite sex. In addition, mixing boys and girls in a class faciliates gender sensitivity between the two genders which would otherwise not possible if the genders were separated.

Exclusive schools for boys and girls should be discouraged. They are anchored on a fallacious assumption that students will be more focused on their studies by exerting exclusivity in their class in terms of gender. That assumption is not backed by research or study but only on the notion that the opposite sex is a distraction to study. The perceived advantage is even overshadowed by its numerous drawbacks. By making a class exclusive for boys or girls, the students become socially inadequate to relate with the other gender because of their lack of exposure and training on how to deal with the opposite sex.

Students will become less confident and they could even become insensitive because their social vocabulary and competence about the opposite sex is inadequate. Social competence is also important because students will have to deal with other people including the opposite sex when they are already in the workplace when they become professionals someday. Education is not only limited to academics. It also includes how to deal with people appropriately. A good education will become useless if the person cannot work or deal with other people.

Dealing with other people is particularly important if a person will become professional someday. A businessperson has to deal with clients, suppliers, employees, a doctor to his or her patient, a employee to his or her team mates and so on and so forth. It only meant that it is inevitable that we will be dealing with other people someday and it would be better if the students are trained early by integrating boys and girls in a class. Making a class exclusive to boys or girls makes a student socially inadequate.

The structure of gender exclusivity does not inspire confidence among students because of the lack of exposure towards the other gender making their emotional and social vocabulary limited. This will result to a lower self-esteem among students which could be disastrous when they become professionals. It is disastrous because no matter how good they are academically, they would still not feel good enough to even try because of low self esteem and this will result to a failure among them because they are not confident enough to try any new endeavor.

Lack of self-confidence results to low self esteem which could be debilitating. Inorder to prevent social handicap among students, school administrators should mix students so that they will be exposed to different kinds of people and will learn how to interact confidently. Allowing students to interact with the opposite sex will tremendously benefit the student’s self confidence and self esteem.
