 We go to school from an early age up into our twenties and sometimes even longer than that. Why do we need to go to school? Can we acquire enough information from books by studying on our own? If so, we do not need any teachers, and schools can be closed. However, many students find it difficult to understand new concepts by studying on their own. Also there is more important information outside books. Highly educated experts, teachers and professors, give students extra information and help them understand material easily.

For this reason, attendance improves student learning. A non experimental cause-to-effect study can be performed. Firstly, students are divided into two groups, the control group and the experimental group. The control group consists of students who are not absent from the first day class begins until the day before the first examination starts. Students who have not been absent are alphabetically listed, and then selected by choosing every second name on the list. Ten students are selected for the control group.

If students come late into class, which means before eight o’clock in the morning, it would not count as absent. The ten students’ first examination results are collected. Students who are not absent from the day after the first examination to the day before the second examination are selected, then listed by alphabetical order and every second name from the last name on the list is chosen. The second examination results are collected for these students. The third and the forth examination results are gathered in the same way by using the first and second methods.

There are 40 students in the control group, and the average percentage of the test results is then calculated. The experimental group consists of students who are absent at least twice from the first day that class begins until the day before the first examination starts. Students who give the professor notice to be absent more than once in advance will count as absent. Also students who come after eight o’clock in the morning will count as absent as well, because the professor’s lecture starts at the beginning of the class and ends around eight a.m., this is the most important time for students to obtain a lot of information from the Professor.

If it is missed, then students would be considered as not attending a class. Students who have been absent are alphabetically listed, and then selected by choosing every second name on the list. Ten students are selected for the experimental group. The ten students’ first examination results are collected. Students who are absent from the day after the first examination to the day before the second examination are selected, listed by alphabetical order, and then every second name from the last name on the list is chosen.

The second examination results are collected for these students. The third and the forth examination results are gathered in the same way as in the first and second methods. 40 students are in the experimental group, and the average percentage of the test results is calculated. The average percentages of the test results from both the control group and the experimental group are compared, and a difference is calculated. An approximate Statistically Significant d’s at.05 Level table is used as a reference.
