Download file to see previous pages Jealousy was my little dark black secret as I watched my friends have the financial support to attend college. My mother is a college educated woman but she did not pressure any of her children to go to college. Sure, she would casually mention going to college, in passing, but when I was a senior in high school she did not encourage me to attend.
I guess she thought I would figure it out on my own someday. I remember her saying, “If you go into the medical field as I did you will never be out of work.” This went in one ear and out the other. I did not take what she said to heart or give it much thought. I felt that filler jobs just ended up on my lap; due to being in the right place at the right time and because I was young and fairly attractive.
Now that I am turning 40 and I am a parent; that has changed. My pilgrimage to attain a higher education is to provide a stable life for my son, be a positive role model, and to aspire to find something in life; that can only be found by expanding my education.
Having a stable career and not just a job is a very important step in my life. A stable career will enable me to provide a good home and be able to afford a college education for my son. The right stable career is able to point you toward financial freedom and it gives you an opportunity to be in demand in the job marketplace.
There are many career choices where hardworking employees will always be in demand; healthcare workers, accountants, and morticians are examples of some of these. My immediate family is in the healthcare field. My mother and father are lab technicians, my sister is a certified nursing assistant, and my brother is an x-ray technician. It seems natural that I would eventually choose this career path. ...Download file to see next pagesRead More

"Medea" by Euripides, "A Doll's House" by Henrik Ibsen, "Raise the Red Lantern" by Zhang Yimou, and "Size 6 The Western Women's Harem" by Fatema Mernissi-the three works of fiction and the article by Mernissi, have been lauded for their portrayal of the agonies of women, though in different contexts and cultures. All the three female protagonists in the first three stories have made unbelievably brave sacrifices to win the affection of the men whom they loved. In the fourth, Fatema Merinssi is narrating her views on how Western women are tailor made to suite the beauty fancies of men by the fashion industry and how that result in physical and mental problems for women (Mernissi). But all these four stories convey one single point...

Who am I and why am I

...?Ken Suganda Dr. Wayne Kao Psychology 41 15 December Who am I and why am I? There is a clear distinction between the races in the American society. I just moved into Los Angeles, and finally gotten the hang of the whole idea about the classifications that we are given the instant we stepped into this country. My own race had been branded with many stereotypes that I find rather true. I am a Chinese Indonesian and I was brought up in Indonesia for a decade before moving to Singapore for my studies, and then to the United States. In the United States, people do not see me very much as an Indonesian. Partly, because I do not have dark skin and I am not a Muslim. People see me as a Chinese, from mainland, China. Evidently, I suffer from a mix...

Marketing Ads: I Am a Mac, I Am a PC

The director of this TV ad concentrated more on attacking the weaknesses of PC and projecting the merits of Mac. Moreover, this ad was intended to make a direct comparison between Mac and PC so that the viewers will get a clear picture about the merits of Mac over PC. However, this ad failed to make much impact in the market and as a result of that Apple forced to withdraw it in 2010. This paper analyses why this marketing campaign failed and what could have been done better to make it still alive. I Think, Therefore I am

...In his famous Dis on Method the renowned philosopher Ren Descartes originally said in French: "Je pense, donc je suis". This later became popular in its Latin version as "Cogito ergo sum", or, "I Think, Therefore I am." The following quote from his work points out one of the main points he has to stress: "after considering everything very thoroughly, I must finally conclude that the proposition, I am, I exist, is necessarily true whenever it is put forward by me or conceived in my mind." (AT VII 25; CSM II 16-17) This clearly means that Descartes believed that if and when he was thinking of his existence, and could conceive of it, he indeed actually existed. Here, he claims his own existence from a first-person point of view, and does...

I AM

... of Tabernacles, one lamp was not lit up to signify that salvation is yet to arrive in entirety. The next Jesus Christ’s “I Am” statements take place while He declares and perceptibly manifests that He is the final and definitive completion of the Feast of Tabernacles when he restored the blind man’s sight (Morris 114). However, a probe was carried in order to shed light on why the healing took place on a Sabbath day. The satirical gist of the story is that Jesus delivers a man from darkness to light while the Pharisees believes that they are in lightness yet are living in darkness. In John 10:7, Jesus speaks about metaphorically that He is gate for the sheep (Vieths 33). Jesus is conveying the truth that He alone can lead humanity...

Who Am I

Descartes's belief "I think therefore I am" came to be known as Cogito. This implies that human beings are merely bundles of perception.
Descartes asserts that whatever he perceives very distinctly and clearly is true. He says if you can convince yourself that you exist, then you really do. This definitely means that we exist because we perceive it. He feels the Supreme Power tries to change our perception into making us believe that we are nothing but as long as remain firm that we exist, we really exist. Human beings are capable of thinking, that is a fact. He also firmly believes that clear and distinct perception is the mark of knowledge. Thinking makes you feel sure that you exist. Even doubting your existence, confirms...

The smell is invigorating. It radiates all the way up to the middle of my forehead and clears up the sinus problem that I had when I woke up. I am noticing that the day has started for some of my neighbors as well. I can hear their gates opening up as they prepare to leave for work or go to school. A number of factors may cause a lack of parental involvement. Parents do not participate because of poverty, or drug and alcoholism. Teachers in public sch...

Who Am I

I was mature for my age since everyone else was a bit older and so I also was independent and a bit grown-up compared to most kids my age. Most of my friends used to annoy me all the time during my adolescent years for acting so immaturely. My life as a child was a bundle of mischief and humor for the whole family. I remember a time many years back when my family and I went to a restaurant for lunch after fishing, and while waiting for our meals to be brought by the waitress, I took one of my crayons-I never left the house without them for some reason- and toss it to my brother Tommy who was seated opposite me. However, instead of hitting Tommy, the crayon flew past the side of his head and hit a man who was seated behind him at t...

Should College Athletes Be Paid to Play

Despite professional sports being a source of income for many athletes, college athletes are not paid. This is termed as exploitation of student-athletes by Sack (93). This paper explicates the reasons why college athletes ought to be paid.
There are opposing arguments that college athletes ought not to be paid to play. For instance, the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) has implemented policies that do not allow colleges to compensate their athletes for attending their institution other than through covering for their tuition fees or scholarships (Arnold 121). The NCAA also argues that college athletes are not professionals and therefore should not be paid (Arnold 121). Some people conversely argue that the de...

Gender Dynamics in College Education

The numbers are shouting and everywhere you go the message is the same: females are outnumbering males in educational attainment. As part of my research, I interviewed a number of students on college on the reasons behind the gendered distribution of students and more specifically females outperforming males. It appears that female students have a more vigorous drive for education and have more passion for strong careers in future. Masculinity is a factor that significantly contributes to the overturning gender dynamics in college education. Traditionally males dominated the educational...
