Essay: An Accomplishment Life is a learning experience that seldom ceases to impart wisdom to anyone who is willing to learn. It is this learning that eventually helps an individual accomplish feats that are not only difficult but those that are considered impossible. Take the case of Thomas Edison, who invented the light bulb. Although it is common knowledge that Thomas Edison invented the light bulb, less well known is the fact that he failed 6000 times before succeeding.
Much like Edison I endured many failures and a few light bulbs along the way. I wasn't a very bright child but where I lacked in intelligence I made up with hard work. My parents struggled hard to make ends meet but never allowed their financial problems to have a negative impact on my personal development. As a child I dreamt of becoming an astronaut who would fly across the galaxy helping everyone and anyone who crossed my path. My parents never forced their opinion on me and as I grew up my career interests swayed from astronaut to pilot and by the time I was eighteen I had like many mature adults decided on a career in finance.
It was right after finishing high school that I had a discussion with my parents on what I wanted out of my life. I vividly remember that night like it happened just yesterday. We were watching television when my parents started discussing my future aspirations. My parents were updating me with all the options that were available to me, during which my father also mentioned the army. It was at this very moment (like a sign from God Almighty) that an army recruitment advertisement came on. Maybe it was an emotional moment for me but all I know is that the culmination of that piece of army marketing and my fathers words touched my heart and blew me awayall the way to the military! It was at that very moment that I decided on joining the army. I immediately conveyed my decision to my parents and it wasn't long before I had joined the army.
Joining the army was not the hard part but surviving it was. At the risk of sounding trite, I confess that it was a very hard time for me. Although I served for two years but the austerity and hardship I endured during that time opened up vast new horizons for me. It helped me forge lasting bonds of friendship while sowing in me the seeds of cooperation and teamwork it made me aware of hitherto untapped reservoirs of strength and endurance in myself. Above all, it made a man of me. It was an accomplishment that to this day is unbelievable as far as I a concerned and even more astonishing is the way it actually materialized.
My abiding legacy from that period is a sense of self-confidence: a conviction that I can achieve any goal I set my mind to pursue. I consider it a learning experience second to none. It was this accomplishment of mine that eventually lead me to where I am today. In the words of Anatole France "To accomplish great things, we must not only act, but also dream, not only plan, but also believe" Read More

...? Service Learning Experience Service Learning Experience Introduction I completed my service learning experience hours at Asera Hospice in Marshfield, Wisconsin. I will begin my evaluation with the objectives of the course, discuss a theory that is relevant to learning styles to see how it fits with the course and then provide my conclusions about how this course meets the objectives of the course.

I am assuming that the Teaching and Learning Strategies class was created for students at the college level who were going into some form of teaching or training.

To evaluate this course it is a good idea to start from the beginning and look at the objectives. As I was looking for references in this process, I found a website that had tips for designing instruction that I felt would offer me a structure to work within. Organisational Learning in Educational Institutions

Conventional understandings will be reviewed and reinterpreted based on the actual practice and needs of such organizations.

Most literature on organizational development tends to be for the management of business organizations. But I believe that organizational learning is more crucial for non-profit motivated service organizations such as educational institutions because they are more embedded in society and have greater social as well as economic consequences. Educational institutions are dynamic institutions like many others but they are fundamentally different from businesses for whom most of the conventional organizational change and development theories are framed. A developed and tailored theory of organizationa...

Esentials of Management: Team-Based Learning

Setting up successful teams is a prerogative of any organization and in the business world of present times; it is very much a need rather than a desire. The businesses have changed so as to create more room for teams than individual working ethos. This has given space to more facilitation within the working environments of teams since they bring combined efforts and usage of more brains than a singular person. The factors that stand important in the wake of successful teams include a commitment towards common goals and a simplistic and solitary objective which must be kept in mind at all times. These factors underline the basis of the teams performing a singular whole than disjointed units within the framework of the organization...

Organizational Change is an Opportunity for Organizational Learning

Before we move on to how it is beneficial for everyone, even though it is perceived negatively by a large number of people and is one of their biggest fears, we need to discuss the different kinds of changes and the reason behind them.

An organization can go through a structural change. This can be due to a takeover or a complete change of management. In this type of change, the way of working and many dimensions of business activity is altered.
