This structure provides themes in which students learn about the general human experience in the world. Students are educated to and prepared for the challenges that citizens face in a democratic nation (Adler et al 2006). The standard is organized in a manner that it has time allotments for different grade levels. For the 1st grade social studies, 120 minutes per week have been set for teaching the subject.
