? I still remember how hard was it to go for a one-credit It felt just as boring as attending the college. However, the individual teaching mein the strength fitness class is professionally certified for he knows how to inculcate motivation in the students in the morning class. First of all, he makes us stretch out before going through core workouts because without it, we are susceptible to acquiring injury. After he spends 5 to 10 minutes on us so that we can warm-up, he distributes the course information. The course information includes subjects like the rationale behind stretching prior to exercise, and the ways to improve the upper body (biceps, triceps, chest, and abdomen) using dumbbells and bench press. The class is very organized and every bit of information is distributed and elaborated in the same class. Also, the instructor takes great care of safety matters while teaching students so that students pay full attention to the exercise. It is a very nice experience. I also get a sense of dealing with different classes of students. I have observed the Strength Training course in the Department of Physical Education. The department offers registration to about 35 to 40 of the College, Engineering, and Applied Science majoring students. The students are registered by professional instructors certified as fitness trainers at the fitness center. Every Monday and Wednesday or Tuesday and Thursday, the class is 50 minutes long. During this training session, no one is allowed to come in except the fitness staff and students. All doors are shut during the lecture. Three different teachers have made three different groups. Each group teaches different strength sessions in 50 minutes. When the first group is teaching the students how to do push-ups effectively, the second group is teaching about the development of biceps with the use of dumbbells, and the last group is discussing triceps improvement with dumbbells. The fundamental goal of the class is to develop confidence and increase the strength, flexibility, and balance. Furthermore, the class focuses on the principles of muscular strength development; realization of the benefits of developing skeletal muscular and cardiovascular aerobic fitness following the moderate to intensive exercise with fitness equipments. The data shows that most students will be able to understand the language of fitness, especially the terminologies of strength training. Students can establish realistic goals based upon their personal assessments and develop training strategies to achieve their goals. The students can also feel improvements in muscular strength, endurance, flexibility, and body composition at the end of the class. The teachers are professionally certified on teaching a college level course, providing readings, lectures, and written assignments as well as practical physical training activities. Hopefully, the environmental class setting will get renovated with brand new fitness gears to make students focus on exercise in their gym classes. In the presence of other faculty members, staff, and students while the classes are operating in the gym, it gets hard for individuals to get into the specific gym floor so that they may have strength training on their own . As the class is 1 credit, some students who are freshmen or sophomore are distracted and talk with friends. Couple of students leave behind the paper distributed by the instructor in the class. The instructor explains the purpose of each exercise and demonstrates how right body posture should be made with the use of real dumbbells and fitness machines. The teacher uses a marker to explain the purpose of training and the exercise or dietary guidelines on the window glass because the environmental setting is not good enough. The teacher checks out each students’ physical activity and exercise logs that shows how much workout is done after the class. The teacher motivates students to struggle hard while to lift weights. Most fitness equipments such as bench-press bars, dumbbells, or weight plates are older. Some grips and bars are covered with rust or plastic covers and are majorly ripped and scratched. The gym is not spacious enough to allow practicing all training techniques learned in the class until after the session. Below are the two changes that may be immediately feasible. They are vital for the overall improvement of the class. After these changes are implemented in class, a teacher can evaluate the extent to which a student understands the course work. Any classroom should be reserved to demonstrate the theory and method of strength training and fitness at least one or two days before having practical-based lecture because current classroom environment is not conducive for adequate learning at the gym. As the duration of lectures is too short for students to understand everything, the teacher needs a summary of the class before five to ten minutes of the end of the class to ensure that everyone’s concepts are clear. Here are additional changes that can apply to the class later. For safety issues, fitness equipment needs to be replaced with new brands. The class size is too large. Sometimes, the back-benchers chat with each other and disturb the whole class. The maximum allowable number of students should not exceed 25 . That would improve the concentration of students and their participation in class. The instructor needs to keep passing such encouraging comments as, “Do it once more!” or “You can do it!” in order to motivate the students in class. At least, he should use such phrases and comments to encourage students who are weak and cannot hold the bar and weights steadily. Even though students seem to know the right method of training and exercise, they sometimes have misconceptions. The instructor needs to understand that all students are not physically fit for the class at first. All participants have different knowledge and fitness levels. Therefore, he teacher should keep asking a question to make sure that every student can handle specific weight or knows the knowledge of course work. Approximately 35 students came into the 2nd grade level of swimming class. Two male teachers helped boys and two female teachers helped girls when they entered the locker room until they left the class. There are two lifeguards who keep watching children and one swimming pool manager who maintains the cleanliness of water. The class covered the methods of diving and freestyle by using pull buoys, swim fins, and kickboards. 36 students were divided into three groups on the basis of their swimming knowledge and skills. About 12 students practiced diving as a group in the small pool behind the regular swimming pool. Another 18 students practiced freestyle stroke taking pull buoys in between their thighs to keep using only their hands. And the rest of students were looking for more advanced freestyles than the two groups; they showed that they could fully pace in the water by using swim pins on their feet. And the goal of the class is to produce safer, skilled, and happy swimmers while building their self-esteem and intimacy with the water. All the students are in their second grade so that they have enough ability of developing and establishing their component skills in arms, legs, and breathing in butterfly, back stroke, breast stroke, and freestyle. The data with the effective teaching swimming skills from the teachers will enable children to put their face in the water, kick the feet front and back, and have symmetrical arm action. And I believe that children will learn rhythmic breathing, combined with arms and foot strokes, and personal safety and rescue skills. Few minutes before starting the class, I would like to suggest that children need to learn more about safety in swimming pool. The personal safety information is the basis of accident prevention. Also, students get safety techniques; understand when it is the right time to yell for help so that rescuers, life guards, or adults can assist them. Being in their second grade, children tend to look forward to more fun and playing water games rather than actually practicing to swim. Read More
