Design of a Web Recruitment System We were required to design and execute a project. Initially, our team decided to do a project on Curriculum Vitae;however, our erudite advisor, dissuaded us from restricting our project to just this area and exhorted us to delve deeper into the possibilities of this enterprise. The first task that we had to envisage was the allocation of time for each phase of the project. To this end, we decided that the project was to be completed, within a period of time that would at most extend to several weeks. Accordingly, we devoted the first week to the selection of those who were to participate in this project. The second week was reserved for deciding upon the nuances of the project to be completed. The third and fourth weeks were principally devoted to searching on the internet for similar projects, so as to obtain an idea as to what the project entailed in its entirety. This issue proved to be extremely challenging, and after judiciously weighing the pros and cons of a number of projects, we paid heed to our advisor’s recommendation to explore the various ramifications of our initially suggested project, regarding Curriculum Vitae. Consequently, we decided to design a Web Recruitment System. Our project entered its fifth week, and we had modified the project according to the recommendations received from our adviser; and our project changed from a simple Curriculum Vitae obtention application to a Web Recruitment System. In the succeeding week, we distributed the tasks amongst the other members of the team working on this project. We also ensured that sufficient time was allotted to them, so as to permit them to enhance their skills, in the field of development, prior to embarking on the development phase. Subsequently, a number of discussions were conducted, wherein the project idea was finalized, under the aegis of our adviser. This process resulted in a number of new aspects being incorporated into our project. All this transpired in the seventh week. It is mandatory to take the TMA 01, in order to complete the project; accordingly, we ensured the successful completion of the former in the eight week. In the ninth week we held discussions with the adviser, and appraised him as to the progress made by us till that time. Thereupon, the adviser provides us with invaluable advice and comments, which involved a number of stages and which ensured a significant improvement to the project. Afterwards, in the tenth week, we conducted a group meeting, so as to make the changes suggested by the adviser. The completion of these activities marked our entry into the design stage, which consisted of a number of activities. First, in the eleventh week, a group meeting was conducted, in order to agree upon the project interface and this constituted a task of paramount importance. Secondly, a meeting was held in the twelfth week to complete the task of constructing a database diagram. Thirdly, we held discussions with the adviser regarding the project interface and the database diagram. Fourthly, the project interface – story boards – was finalized, in accordance with the adviser’s recommendations and comments, and this took up the fourteenth week. Fifthly, a second requirement for concluding the project is the TMA 02, and we successfully, completed this in the fifteenth week. Finally, we employed the results of the TMA 02 and commenced the task of modifying the project interface and the database diagram. This task was completed in the sixteenth week and this also marked the end of the first semester. In order to save time, we decided to work on the programming aspect of the project, during the interval between the first and second semesters. In this process, first, one of the team members commenced the task of writing the code for the interface and the middleware application, while another member started work on building the database and the different relationships involved. Subsequently, a progress meeting was held amongst the group members, in order to evaluate and monitor the status of the project, and to determine the progress achieved till that time. Thereupon, the task of linking the database with the project interface was undertaken. After that, a discussion was held with the adviser, regarding the initial status of the project, so to enable the adviser to monitor the status of the project and to provide us with recommendations and advice regarding the necessary changes to be engendered, so as to render the project more powerful. After receiving these comments from the adviser, we made the necessary changes to the project. Later on, we initiated the task of preparing the finalized documentation, regarding our project; next, we implemented a help system that was designed to be easy to use; and after this we implemented our Web Recruitment System. At long last, we reached the “Testing Stage”, which had to be handled with great care, so as to detect the presence of errors and to adopt measures to correct them. The first thing that we did in this endeavour was to commence the testing of the project and we advised the students taking the course to attempt testing this project. Afterwards, we attempted to rectify some of the errors that had appeared during execution of the program. Next, we discussed what we had achieved, and we once again consulted our adviser, in order to receive advice regarding any enhancement to be made to our project. Consequent to the obtention of the adviser’s comments and recommendations, a group meeting was conducted, with the objective of making the changes suggested by the adviser. After that the TMA 03 was completed by us, and a meeting was held to change the project, in accordance with the results of the TMA 03. After this we started work on finalizing our report regarding the project; and finally, we completed the TMA 04, and readied ourselves for the final presentation. In conclusion, it can be contended that we were successful in creating a comprehensive web recruitment system, which constituted an interface between employers and those who were seeking employment. Potential employees will be benefited, if they use our system, as they can easily locate new or better employment opportunities. Moreover, the employers can easily isolate either fresh graduates or experienced employees, who satisfy their specific requirements. Such activity by employees, students and employers has increased tremendously; because of the present day trend to improve one’s career prospects and thereby one’s standard of living. Hence, those who are desirous of seeking employment, are always on the lookout for companies that pay more and that provide greater benefits. On the other hand, employers seek individuals, who satisfy their unique needs. These could be either promising graduates or highly experienced employees. Companies make wide use of advertisements, through the newspapers and magazines, in order to obtain such persons. These efforts comprise the traditional means adopted by companies and job seekers; and they consume considerable time and effort. Moreover, on many occasions, these efforts have failed to produce the desired result. At this critical juncture, our project makes its grand entrée, because it will facilitate the search for employees and companies. It will also help those seeking employment, by enabling them to ascertain the exact requirements of the company. Finally, this project was instrumental in enabling me to utilize the skills attained from the level three courses taken by me, such as CS490 and M301.In CS490; we had utilized the skills of building and managing a Database. In M301, we used the skills of finding the Requirements Specification of the project, Analyses, Design, Implementation, Testing (validation and verification), and Project Management. This project will be further extended, by interfacing it with the Human Resource system of a company, to monitor their requirements .This system will attempt to propose a candidate, whenever a vacancy arises in the company. In addition, this system will be integrated with news papers in the future, in order to specify the most appropriate person for a job that had been advertised in the newspaper. Read More
