INTERNET – THE NEXT RECRUITMENT PLATFORM Student name: Institution: Date of submission: INTERNET – THE NEXT RECRUITMENT PLATFORM Abstract This study entails the undertaking of an analysis and research on the growing use and popularity of the social media networks and the internet in the job recruitment process. This is through the analysis of data that is collected from a population of 100 respondents. The data is collected through the use of interviews and questionnaires. The results are analyzed and a conclusion is given as to the trend that has emerged in regards to the use and application of the social media in the recruitment process and in the posting of work vacancies. Through this analysis, an in-depth understanding is created o the field of social media and the job applications. It is the belief of the researcher that it will be helpful to all the users. INTERNET – THE NEXT RECRUITMENT PLATFORM Introduction This study entails the undertaking of an analysis of the changes that have taken place in the recruitment process. This is in terms of the application of the social media platforms to recruit the staff. This study therefore analyzed the various platforms that have been used in the carrying out of the recruitment process. It has also analyzed the trend that has been created in the recruitment processes through the social media platforms. Research question What is the impact of the social networks and the internet in the job seeking and recruitment process? Background of the study Moreno, 2009 defines the social media as tools that are computer aided that allow people to create, share or exchange information, data, songs, ideas, pictures and other content in virtual communities and networks. The networks are spread out across the corners of the world. This makes the information to therefore be transmitted to all the corners of the world and in quick transition. They also have a trait of having user generated content as pointed out by Gwenn, 2011. Based on this, the social media has been on the rise in popularity over the recent years. This is attributable to the benefits that are derived from the use by the users. The same case applies to the internet. Its use and reach has been more I the world as compared to the reach a decade ago. The growth has been by more than 1000% in the number of the people reached. This can be attributed to the development of infrastructure and the rise in the levels of literacy in the developing and other third world countries. Some of the most common social media sites include Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, WhatsApp, Google+, Tumblr and Flicker among others. The most common of this is Facebook as it has over the years attracted more than one billion users. Purpose of the study The study is very crucial to the employers and the job seekers in the recent days. This is because it will aid in the creation of a direction and trend that is being used by the people in the employment industry through its use. This will also aid in the development of ideas as to the best methods that can be put into use and applied to the process to make it suitable for the carrying out of their recruitment processes. The study is therefore very significant to them. The theoretical significance of this study is that it aids in the creation of an understanding of the shifts and trends that are taking place in the employment scope and the reasons behind the shift. This is crucial in the undertaking of the future recruitment processes by the companies and industries. This will also aid in the identification of the benefits that are derived from the use of the social media networks by the players in the employment industry. Change in the employment dynamics noted Recent days have been characterized by massive changes in the manner with which the employment and recruitment process is carried out. This is due to the increase in the application and the use of the social networks and platforms in the carrying out of the researches by companies and industries. Obar, 2015 describes the social networks that have been formed in the recent days as platforms that have aided in the boosting of networks and relationships among the people. The people in this case have several things in common. They include similar interests, connections in real life and backgrounds. These connections may include the professional qualifications that are held by the people. They can be linked with those that are required by the employers and the result is the creation of employment to the people. The benefit of this is that it brings together people with several similarities among them to form a relationship. A good example is a group whereby accountants are networked and linked with other accountants in other regions or countries. This has therefore resulted to integration among the people in the world. Policies on employment Recent days have witnessed many changes in the employment policies. This has been majorly so due to the implementation and use of the internet as the basis for the sorting out and analyzing of the data and qualifications of the people. There has been the development of mechanisms and dynamics that have seen to it that people are sorted out based on their professional qualifications and professionalism. This has been through several internet and computer aided programs that sort out the applicants based on their qualifications. For example, I the job required people with a masters level of education, it sieves the people with below that and remains with only those with the masters education. I also do so with such things as the working qualifications of the people, the language proficiencies, the professional courses undertaken and such other things as this. The mode of job application has also changed in the recent days as compared to the traditional ways. The job vacancies are posted online on the websites of the companies and in other internet platforms. Through the sites, the applications are received and analyzed. There is the absence of manual operations in the undertaking of the recruitments and other such things as this. This has aided in the reducing of the costs that are spent in such things as newspapers posts or the radio and television broadcasts as it was in the earlier days. Research questions In the undertaking of the study, there was the development and framing of some questions. They were later posed to the people. There was the use of interviews and questionnaires which would act as the platforms through which the questions would be answered by the respondents. The interview that was carried out involved the collection of feedback from 100 people within many professions and ages possible. As the population involved was small, sampling technique of data analysis was not used to arrive at the conclusions that were made. The questionnaire has several factors that it considered. The following questions were used in the carrying out of the study on the use of the social media and internet networks in the job recruitment process and other processes. Sign as to the accuracy and honesty of information provided Results Following the undertaking of the analysis, there were several inferences and results that were retrieved from the feedback. They are as follows. a. Gender of the respondents – 60% male and 40% female b. Age of the respondents – 23% more than 50 years of age, 54% between 49 years and 30 years 23% below 29 years of age c. People who are happy with the progress in the social media networking in regards to the jobs – 60 % and three quarters of who are above the age of 30 years 40% mostly below the age of 29 years d. People who have knowledge of the existence of the social media – 80% Majority of the remaining 20% are over the age of 70 years e. Recommendations raised from the analysis – most people mostly below the age of 29 years feel that the criteria for selection is mostly inclined on the levels of experience in a given field. This cuts their ability and effectiveness in the selection process. Discussions and conclusions Following the analysis that has been done and the results that have been derived, there are some discussions that can be developed. The first point is that most young people and people below the age of 70 years are aware of the presence of the social media platforms. They are also cognizant of the existence of the recruitment platforms in the market that are carried out through the internet. This is indicative of the growth in the popularity of the standards that have been developed in the recruitment process. These standards are mostly in known by the young population. The traditional methods have been on the rise in the falling popularity index. This is due to the technological advancement that has been experienced and that will continue to be witnessed in the internet and the social networks. People in the young population are however adamant that this cuts them out in the selection process. This is where the recruiters look for the most experienced people in the issuing of the jobs and in the selection process. As a result of this, they feel that there should be the putting in place of more measures to check the qualification and appropriateness of a person to a given post through such things as knowhow and rather not the years of experience. The people have also borne witness to the fact that they have once or twice browsed through the internet in searching for job vacancies. The most notable network that has been used in this is LinkedIn networks which acts as a link between the employers and the job seekers. There is also an increase in the tendency of people to ignore the posts that are in the newspapers and other traditional methods of job advertisements. Through the implementation of such changes in the systems that are used in the recruitment of the staff, the people will be fully accommodating. It has however noted that there is an increase in fake accounts and bloggers who undertake money laundering activities over the internet under the pretense and promise of job selection. This has increased with the increasing popularity of the social networks in regards to job searching and recruitment process. Measures should therefore be put in place to see to it that this is reduced and if possible the vice should be completely eliminated from the system. Some of the benefits that have been attributed to the social network and the internet in regards to the jobs are that it is cheaper, more reaching and more professional. It also reduces the workload of the recruiters and there are filters in place to eliminate those who have not met the set criteria.
