Extract of sample "Denver Art Museum: Analysis od Wind River Country Painting by Albert Beirstadt"

The detail in the foreground shows how busy life in the countryside can be. There are logs and rocks that carefully show the setting of the place. This painting was unlike others. Bierstadt did not create it from a single shot of the landscape, but rather by piecing together a wide range of shots. Looking at this image, I see a scene that brings about immense peace and relaxation.

Bierstadt clearly fell in love with the view when he first made the journey to the Rocky Mountains, and he attempted to give people a small taste of that experience. The reason why this painting was named Wind River Country is that the scene is based on the Wind River Range in the Rocky Mountains. The important mountain in this painting used to be known as Fremont’s Peak but is now called Temple Peak.
