It is also beneficial to a person as an individual tends to be informed and educated about different aspects of life that they are not used to. Going to an event knowing you are to report on it is very educative to a student. This is because a student will be keener through the whole process and will be much informed than how they were before they went to the event. Exposing one regularly to new kinds of arts and different cultures gives one an experience and a chance to connect, explore and understand different perceptions of life. It awakens ones innovative thoughts and feelings. Regular exposure to new arts is very essential as through it a person’s critical thinking and learning becomes awakened. Through arts, whether new arts or ancient arts, one gets a sense of inspiration, experimenting, creativity and also authentic learning of the new experiences. New arts enable one to understand the past, the present and how the artwork future may come to be as it is through arts that people get to share intergenerational learning experiences. The understanding of the unexamined life is not worth living For one to understand what Socrates meant by the unexamined life is not worth living, one has to recognize that the statement was directed to those who do and don not participate in being human. From Socrates statement one can say that Socrates tried to state that a life that was examined was a life that was indeed worth living. Socrates stated that the aspect of being human is what differentiates a human being from other creatures. This is because a human being is distinguished by the capability to rise above their instincts and desire and to make choices that are not only conscious but also ethical. Study shows that most human beings tend to act in opposition to their urges, desires and instinct just because what they believe that acting on their desires and instincts would not be right. From the statement made by Socrates, one can tell that a belief that one’s instinct or desire is wrong will in the end regulate a person’s behavior in instances where the person is not observed. The unexamined life is not worth living can also be taken to mean that people who live their lives without examining it in the sense of making decisions that are ethical and conscious do not succeed to live a life that enables them to experience and understand the intensity of fully being human. According to Socrates, a life that is unexamined is a life that is unworthy, a life that is unlivable and a life that is of no moral and conscious value. He also showed that he believed in a life that was examined and that a life that was examined was a life that involved a discourse of moral intrinsic worth for instance justice; it also involved serious moral reflection of a person. Socrates also believed that an examined life which should be kind of life being lived was a life that was being directed naturally by pain and pleasure. It is a life that draws people to wealth, power and reputation. Socrates believed in the examined life rather than the unexamined because through it human beings were drawn to an injunction that led them to appraise their true worth of being humans. He also meant that the purpose of an examined life was to enable one reflect upon what they intended to do, their daily motivations and aspirations, and also determine by themselves if they have their real worth and value. Socrates also used the phrase of the unexamined life is not worth living to show humans that an examined life is a good life and that everyone should strive to live a good life. Though a good life is debatable from one individual to another, it is argued that a good life is supposed to be a life that is conscious and ethical in all forms. It is also used to mean that a good life is a life that is just and fair. From understanding the theme used by Socrates one gets to believe that a life that was not examined was not a life of virtues or a life with direction or purpose. By examining one’s life and making it worth living, a person is encouraged to reflect on the choices that may have led them to the position that they are at, to gauge if the choices are right. They should also seek to know if the choices they make are fulfilling to them and in turn enabling them to move forward. One should also look at the bad choices and the right choices they have made and the effects the choices have on them. Socrates did not mean that by examining one’s life all one was to do was to sit and think about their life; instead an individual was to pursue actively a different direction of their life if that proved to be the necessary thing they could do.
