Mobile Forensics: Mobile Phones Handsets, SATNA V, PDA, USB Abstract The project is aimed at creating awareness to the public on importance of studying mobile forensics. The proposal is therefore having a plan to come up with information system centres which will help educate the citizens, incubate youths who are interests and has got idea on information technology. It is discussed on this proposals the issues why it becomes necessary to study mobile forensics as it helps cub mobile crimes with the growing mobile consumer market. it is therefore my aim that coming up with such a project on mobile forensics would help reduce mobile crimes among the society Introduction Mobile device forensics generally is a branch of digital forensics that recover digital evidence or digital data from a mobile device through the use of forensic sound conditions. Forensic device would be digital device that has both internal memory and communication ability including mobile phones, GPS devices, PDA devices, and also the tablet computers. Forensic study of mobile devices has existed, dating from the early 2000s. This was majorly introduced due to a proliferation of phones ,more so the introduction of smartphones in the consumer market . Casey, Eoghan (2004). A lot of evidential and technical challenges have existed due particularly on the use of mobile phones which has been a threat to the security. For instance, the cell site analysis following from the use of a mobile phone usage has really not been an exact science. Though it is a possibility to determine roughly the geographical site from which a call was either made or received, it is still not possible to say with surety that a mobile phone call was done from a specific location ,say a residential address. It is even of more challenge today that the original phone manufactures are frequently changing the form factors of their mobile phone, data storage, the operating system file structures, peripherals, services, and not to forget pin connectors and even the cables. This are done for them to remain competitive in the market. As a result of this factor, forensic examiners are therefore forced to use a different forensic process as opposed to forensics. Another challenge is the continued growth of Storage capacity .in trial to cub and manage these challenges, several tools exist to extract evidence from mobile devices but it is true that no one tool or method can manage to acquire all the evidence from all devices. Due to this, It is recommended that forensic examiners, especially those who wants to qualify as expert witnesses during judgements in court, to go through extensive training so then they understand how each tool and technique acquires evidence how the tool maintains the standards for forensic soundness and finally how it meets the existing legal requirements like the Daubert standard or the Frye standard. Background Forensic examination of mobile devices as a subject is traced the late 1990s and early 2000s. Although the role of mobile phones in crime had been long-time recognized by the enforcement of law .There was a need to develop forensic examination due to increased expansion o the use of mobile phones in consumer market. There has been a shift and inventions in this field of study since its introduction. This is due to the expansion in the mobile use that required for more efficient and effective ways of retrieving data . (Tsukayama, Hayley (13 July 2012). "Two-thirds of mobile buyers have smartphones"). In the run, Some specialises have found that they could retrieve even the deleted data using the so called "flasher" or the use of "twister" boxes, These tools were developed by OEMs to do "flashing" on a phone's memory for debugging or rather updating the memory. Today, much more commercial tools have been automated, rendering it possible even for first responders with minimally training. Aim The main purpose of the project is to create awareness and develop necessary measures that would help deal with mobile devices crimes in the near future and currently. Due to increased new invention in the mobile industry, there is a need to come up with an idea that shall manage this Objectives To come up with mobile forensic study centres, which will help in conducting seminars, training and other educative services relating to forensic stud Developing an efficient and effective simple forensic examination tools, such as forensic photography ,this will assist in accessing the proprietary operating system. Making an improvement on the already existing tools to make them more powerful and effective is also an objective under this To come up with an information technology incubation scheme on forensic study. This will assist young people with good ideas on the field to improve on their ideas and make then a reality. It will also help them acquire skills and knowledge which may late impact greatly in this field. To educate the community and the surrounding environment on the forensic issues. This will ensure that individuals are aware of simple softwares and applications in place to help cub issues of mobile crimes. These stem from the project objectives and therefore contribute to increasing efficiency of mobile forensic awareness In both cases, the outputs cover aspects of building a multi stakeholder process to support introduction of the mobile forensic information centres. This process is further informed by our experiences of implementing different mobile forensic programmes. In such programmes the capacities and competencies of various actors will be harnessed to contribute to the broad dimensions of sector development such as promotion, training, quality control, operation and maintenance among others. The outputs described here broadly contribute to building the capacity of different sector actors through training, mentoring and knowledge brokering. Technical skills The project in this initial pilot phase will train 50 people on modern techniques in mobile device development and also train six youths on IT and 30 SMEs in briquette making. It will also strengthen and groom people with an idea on mobile forensic, this approach will see this people develop on their skills and acquire more knowledge as a means of strengthening the institutional framework prescribed by the government policy. In addition demonstration on modern mobile forensic technologies will be a key deliverable necessary for sustained uptake of the new technologies. The project will also integrate an information technology incubator into the value chains as a means of ensuring sustained benefits from the efficient horticultural mobile forensic training. Beneficiaries The immediate target group and beneficiaries are youth and also specialists who are the It proffessionals and organizational capacity will be enhanced. The project has planned for indepth studies which will involve the potential beneficiaries. From inception to the completion the final benefiecies will drive the process with the role of the partners being facilitation and provision of technical backstopping.This will also indirectly benefit the mobile users ( consumers). Project Monitoring, Evaluation and Reporting The partners will leverage on existing M&E systems in each organization to track project indicators and milestones. For this project, steps to measure progress towards achievement of outputs will be validated by the designated managger during the inception workshops and the surveys and baseline serve to further strengthen this. The monitoring framework will be capturing both qualitative and quantitative results of the project. The qualitative information is very important in measuring changes in perceptions among beneficiaries. The project already has outlined some of the quantitative outputs, the results will be measured periodically, such as the number of ppeople who have enlisted to join the association and participate in the project. Key indicators of the project will be tracked by project staff M&E team on a monthly and quarterly basis. Information collected will be fed back to implementing teams for incorporation and knowledge sharing. In cases where project indicators and milestones are not being met, the designated leaders will jointly come up with corrective measures. The project team will support continuous learning through the development of lessons learnt as well as success stories on a periodic basis Other outputs such as use of locally available materials and its success will be documented as well as the modification in the design of the technologies to suit the local conditions in the country. The designate leaders will hold a preliminary planning meeting before implementation during to further clarify the roles. Legal, Social, Ethical and Professional Issues To ensure the tying together of the Legal, Social, Ethical and Professional Issues in this project, the following factors will be observed: information rights and obligations, property rights and obligations; this covers issues such as copyrights, patents, trademarks-the project will ensure that this right is observed and the laws in place are not abused. The project will also major on accountability and control. We shall also consider the quality of our system.
