Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Economics - Admission/Application Essay Example

Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Economics I would like to apply for a Bachelor of Science Degree major in Business Economics. I believe that my academic background and skills make me qualified for the course. During my high school years, besides performing well academically, I was also involved in extra-curricular activities which harnessed my leadership abilities. My talents were honed and I was able to use it in worthwhile activities in school. Sports is another activity where I engaged in.

I brought honor to my school when I won the gold medal in one of the chess tournaments where our school joined. My high school years helped developed me to become a well-rounded person. My verbal and written communication skills are above average. I am knowledgeable of the various Microsoft programs such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint. After high school, I was accepted as a Manager in a store located outside of the country. This is where my management skills improved. I performed my job to the best of my abilities; thus, my superiors were greatly impressed with me.

The job at the store inspired me to pursue a course in Business Economics because I felt that my business acumen will improve if I take on the course. Likewise, a degree in Business Economics would provide me with greater opportunities to explore various pursuits in contemporary organizations in their thrusts to be more competitive in the global environment. As more economies are affected by external factors in the macro environment, the knowledge and competencies gained from the course would be highly instrumental in enhancing one’s professional qualifications to compete in future endeavors.

I chose to pursue a degree major in Business Economics. This degree has a very good fit with regards to the professional career that I want to achieve in the future. I am very much interested in this major because aside from its focus on the study of economics, it offers one with a background in general business particularly accounting, finance, management, marketing and quantitative business analysis. In the field of economics, I will learn about economic theories, forecasting, money and banking and about international, managerial, public and regional economics.

Through this course, I will be provided with quantitative skills that will be useful in problem solving and in the analytical decision-making process. The career opportunities for graduates of Business Economics are numerous. I can either work for financial institutions, government, the academe, insurance companies or go into marketing or retailing. I believe that employment opportunities abound for Business Economics graduates because they are exposed to the various aspects of an organization.

Aside from the career opportunities presented by a major in Business Economics, this course may also be a stepping stone towards the pursuit of further advance studies such as an MSc in Economics or an MSc in International Economics and Business. These Master’s degree programmes will broaden my job opportunities and include international job prospects. I hope that the University will look at the merits of my application and consider me eligible for the Bachelor of Science Degree major in Business Economics.
