Reflective ment MOHAMMED ALRUMAIH About Me Through out my entire academic life I have always chosen to specialize in business management as a career path because of my unwavering passion for the subject. I consider entrepreneurship and corporate leadership as some of the most important activities one can engage in. Consequently by studying business management up to the university level, I believe my career and professional life will be significantly enhanced. Knowledge of business is undeniably the key to success in our contemporary globalized society. Each day thousands of business people all over the world are engaging in buying, selling shopping discounting, promoting as well as many other business related activities. Consequently almost everyone is involved in business activities in one way or the other. Business management is a career that I love with passion and I would like to continue with my studies and learn more as well as acquire skills that will enable me to be a successful entrepreneur in the future. Being one of the carriers that requires people to work towards a achieving a specific objective, studying business management can enable one to develop the ability to make well informed decisions based relevant concepts and reflective thinking (Fook and Gardener, 2007). This is why I decided to take on this course given my character of due diligence and hard work as well as good interpersonal skills. Since my high school at Alhaiathim, I have always learnt the value of proper time management. This coupled with my positive attitude made me excel in my academic as well as co-curricular activities. Although I initially had conflicting interests in many careers, I eventually settled for business management because it not only offers a good professional life, but it also bring with it an exciting new career environment as well as a lot of challenges that can cultivate innovation in an individual. The one thing that fascinates me most in this career field is that I will always be able to impact on the lives of many people both directly and indirectly. I have always been a hardworking person who has the drive, ability and ambition to succeed in life. I believe all these traits are significantly important to guarantee my success in this particular career. Throughout my academic life and work experience, I have developed strong interpersonal skills as well as team working ability. Some of my key strengths that are related to my professional and career life include ability to mobilize and lead other people, ability to perform analytical judgments and make critical decisions as well as an ability to assess and analyze business situations. I have also developed effective time management skills which enable me to meet deadlines and work even under tight schedules. I have always been an ambitious person who is ready to learn new experiences and it is this eagerness and drive that motivated me assist my father in his farm related activities such as customer service. The work at the farm enabled me to acquire some relevant experience such as how to ensure customer satisfaction in farms and businesses. Additionally I have also learnt how to appreciate customers this is one of the reasons why I’m so passionate about developing my career in business management. This career field will not only give me new experiences on how to handle various problems and issues in as a business man, but it can also enhance my interpersonal skills that are important in various working setting and in addition understand what customers need in order to be more productive in the corporate world. I have also realized that studying course has a lot of potential particularly with regard to the fact that it would open up more avenues and opportunities as well as provide relevant information required to start and manage a profitable business venture. Through the analysis of strengths and opportunities I can be able to minimize risks associated with any business venture and remain profitable. In the current competitive corporate world management requires a lot of skills and there is a growing need for business managers to be well informed and up to date with technology. Talented and innovative managers are needed in every organizational setting this means the rewards of this course are many in terms of employment and personal development. During my time at Alhaiathim high school, I learnt to manage my time well and by the time I finished my high school, I was equipped with relevant skills to enable me be competitive in the current world. Integrity formed part of my work and up to now I believe it is very important for people to develop in me. When I completed my high school, my primary goal in life was to become a manager. After high school I joined King Saudi University which is currently one of the best universities in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. At King Saud University, I took a two year course in business management. The experience that I gained from the course made me more eager to learn more as I kept on interacting with other students with the same passion on a daily basis. After completion of two year course, I decided to help my father at his farm known as Alrumaih farming tools and services. My main duty at the farm was to attend to customers. While working at my father’s farm, I was able to develop various problem solving skills as I interacted with customers with varying needs. In addition I also developed good inter personal skills. Customer service is important to any business if it has to thrive under all circumstances. The opportunities associated with the career made me more aggressive and I managed to get another job at the ministry of Education as purchasing assistant in one of the departments. My job experience at the ministry of education exposed me to the basics of business chain management and increased my knowledge on accounting and procurement procedures. Having evaluated my career needs, I realized that I needed more training to be more competitive and open more opportunities for my personal development. Consequently I decided to apply for a scholarship at the University of Southampton Solent University, in United Kingdom. I found the university more appropriate as it gave me many options to further my career path and improve my life in general. I still had another benefit of working in any business firm once I graduated from this university which was one of my major motivational factors. It is from the recommendations I received from those who had been to this university and my own personal analysis given my academic strengths that I finally decided to apply for the course in the university. In the opinion of those who studied there encouraged me as it would help me in my carrier advancement in terms of knowledge and in addition I stood to gain more while in such a reputable institution. When I arrived at the United Kingdom, I decided to first enrol in a language school and improve my English. This was particularly because I considered English as an important language that will enable me to achieve my career goals. For example to be an effective communicator both in public and at an organizational level I needed to improve my English language and that is why I had to learn it. Having learnt how to communicate in English I also decided to learn how to write in English upon which I was added 6 months to have done the same and sit for an exam which I was required to have a mark of 4.5 in order to be given permission to start my preferred course of study. After many months of hard work I sat for the examination and got the required marks. In 2009, I was admitted to Southampton Solent University to study business management. By focusing on my studies and interacting with other students, I found it easier to improve my English and I became more confident in my communication with people. The motivation and my internal quest to succeed made me pass the foundation year and started my first year after completing the foundation course. I developed an attitude of resilient and determination and overcoming obstacles. This has an added advantage of ensuring proper managerial skills and solving of various organizational issues that arise in any business setting. Right from my high school to college, this kind of thinking has been important in pursuing my dream of being a good business manager and a person who understands people and taking into consideration that the same people are required for the growth of businesses. Through hard work, persistent and dedication I stared enjoying the theories and principles that form the foundation of business management such as accounting, law information technology and best of it all economics. These units formed the backbone of what management was all about and I had to pass them to be competitive in the business management environment. When I sat for my examination, I was confident enough of passing. The final results showed that I had passed with high marks through my first year. I’m currently in my second year at the University studying BA Business Management. I believe that completing this program is significantly critical for my professional life because it will enable me to achieve my career goals. It will also open for me a wide range of opportunities and avenues for personal growth and development. I’m sure that my previous knowledge in business management has prepared me to face the challenges both in my current degree program as well as in my future field of practice (Bolton, 2010). I also intend to pursue further studies after my degree program and join a university of my choice for my MBA before I settle down for career practice. One particular thing that I have noticed over the years is that business management as a subject often get more interesting as one advances his studies into higher levels. I have also discovered that the course is a lot more than about management. For example some of the units that I have undertaken in this course are designed to help students acquire and develop practical skills that will enable them to improve customer experience and motivate their employees in the future when they shall have become business managers. The other skills that I have already learnt in this course includes how to build and ensure a loyal customer base, offering outstanding customer services, offering guidance to customers on matters related to product knowledge, team work skills as well as organizational management skills. Being a techno-savvy person I have learnt computing knowledge including basic computer application skills such as how to use Microsoft word, Ms PowerPoint, Excel and other related applications. I strongly feel that these additional skills will enhance my ability to socialize interact with more like minded people particularly over the internet, complete tasks more efficiently using computers as well as make my career more enjoyable. I’m also a very social person who loves to spend time together with family members, relatives and friends. During my free times, I love visiting my friends and interact with more people. I also enjoy taking part in community service work particularly where I can get a chance to tough the lives of other people. Another favourite past time activity that I occasionally undertake is performing music. I particularly love playing piano and I some times perform in concerts whenever I get a chance to participate. Presently I’m looking for opportunities which will enable me to enhance my personal development as well as career progression. I hope that after completing my current undergraduate studies in Business Management at Southampton Solent University, I will be able to find a job which will enable me to apply the immense knowledge I have acquired in both my academic and various work experiences.
