SWOT ANYLYSIS FOR PIZZA BUSINESS IN OXFORD” Introduction: Oxford is well known for its and the historical events. The is now extended and has captured the attention of new investors. People are becoming more and more interested in having a fruitful business there. Tourists are also interested in visiting this city for the great pieces of amusement and interest covered in this area. The famous Oxford University, Carfax Tower, University Church of St Mary the Virgin, Bodleian Library, Sheldonian Theatre and Ashmolean Museum are some of the famous places which attract tourists and students from all around the world. Knowing the importance of this city for people it is not difficult to decide whether to invest in this area or not. This paper would further evade using a SWOT analysis if the idea of opening a takeaway Pizza shop in oxford city is fruitful or not. Strengths: There are many fast food restaurants around the world and so are in the Oxford city. Out of the long list there are 3 main competitors (i.e. Pizza Hut, Papa John’s and Domino’s) which are already present in that area. These competitors are well-known and are well recognized in the global market. Hence it is not an easy task to capture the attention of people easily. However, recognizing the weaknesses of other competitors and setting the objectives to cover up all those weaknesses may be helpful for the new businesses. Takeaway shops in Oxford are still in a limited number. Hence, opening a takeaway has bright prospects of being accepted quickly. The first thing that attracts people is the presentation of the shop. The interior and exterior of the shop should be unique and attractive. Once the structure attracts a large number of customers, it depends on the staff to deal with them in a decent, respectful and pleasant manner. Due to huge crowds in such areas, it becomes difficult for the staff to pay attention to the customers and act in a pleasant way with everyone. Hence it may be a part of the plan to train the staff perfectly and use them as strength of the business. The strength of the business may also be the specialty of preparing pizzas in a lesser time from the competitors. Customers may like to save their time in waiting for the pizzas to be prepared. Proper location and timings of the shop may also strengthen the position of the shop. The cheap availability of labor may help the business to reduce the prices of pizzas without affecting the quality. Knowing the financial position of the residents of Oxford city and students, a lower price would act as a great strength. Weaknesses: The weaknesses of such a business include the awareness of the health risking factors involved in excessive intake of junk food. Pizzas, ice creams, chips etc. contain a relatively higher amount of fats which may lead to obesity and cardinal disease. The overall reputation of takeaway shops is a weakness for the upcoming business. Pizza is a common dish and is available in all parts of the world. It is probable that people may try out the new cuisines available. Opportunities: The opportunities related to the pizza shop include the increased demand for fast food near colleges and universities. Moreover, most of the people have already tried pizzas in their own areas. Hence, tourist may like to have pizza over something new to avoid the risk of having tasteless food. The use of modern technologies has made it possible to do the marketing in a suitable way. Proper advertisement near the university and offices may help the business in attracting valuable and loyal customers. Students and office workers are more likely to visit the shop again if they liked the pizza for the first time. Being the residents of Oxford city, office workers and students must be kept in view while marketing. More entertainment facilities make it more probable that consumers would rather opt for the takeaway shops. Threats: The most threatening factor for the success of business is the availability of worldwide food chains in that area. Moreover, the availability of other fast food restaurants (like Macdonald, burger king, KFC etc) also acts as a threat to the business. The use of internet provides the consumers with a large number of choices. Hence it becomes necessary to do the marketing via internet. Due to unavailability of shop areas, the rents in Oxford city are high. If the business becomes incapable of covering these huge costs of opening the shop, the business may end up creating great losses on the part of the owners. Recommendations: To help business flourish and be money making, it is recommended to overcome the weaknesses and plan to fight back the threats in the market. In order to avoid the threats in people’s mind regarding the cleanliness of the food, it is important to assure that the staff and area covering the shop is clean. Moreover, new tastes must be developed and surveys must be conducted to know the likeness of the consumers to bring uniqueness in the quality of pizzas. Once new tastes are developed according to the will of the consumers it is probable that the business will soon make its reputation as being an exceptional pizza shop. This may also avoid the risks of being beaten by the direct competitors of the business. Attractive setting and structure of the shop may attract more consumers hence; proper attentions should be given to this area. The availability of cheap labor may help the business reduce its costs without compromising the quality. Other food chains have widely accepted standard prices so; it is more probable that people would like having the same standards in cheaper prices. Conclusion: In conclusion, it can be said that, like other businesses, there are some risk factors but it is not impossible to reduce those ricks. Proper planning and implementation of those plans may help the business flourish and profitable. The quality and taste of food must be excellent to retain the consumers and maintain the reputation.
