The Business Leaders of the World – Rupert Murdoch & Chin-Ning Chu Rupert Murdoch is in essence acclaimed as being the "Gentile" even though he has been portrayed as a "mamzer Jew". Murdoch’s father, Keith, was a mere reporter who was under paid and he had an unexpected marriage to the daughter of a wealthy Jewish family, Elisabeth Joy Greene, thus being the reason for his rags to riches story. This family had cast a good spell on his fortunes which essentially enabled Murdoch Senior to buy for himself a knighthood as well as a radio station and not to forget the two Adelaide newspapers. It was in the year 1968 when Murdochs media realm was approximately 46 million dollars. More than that, his hunger for getting more and more in the media field started to blossom all the way through the 1970s whereby he set up his offices in Britain and then eventually in the United States. (Zinsmeister, 1997) He moved into a truly global level by setting up satellite TV and film studios and as some of the last few years show that he has established his influence with assets of around $14.3 billion. Indeed this ruthless march towards eventual success in every quarter of his life owes heavily upon his unquestionable flair concerned with identifying the lowest tastes that were present there in the public, however an important point to note here is that there was support of four other multi-national mega-money moguls behind doing the very same over a period of time. Rupert Murdoch initially began the move in these circles when his father asked Lord Beaverbrook to teach his son in the print medium and the nitty-gritty of the newspaper commerce. Lord in return brought in Murdoch to Harry Oppenheimer, who was the head of the massive Anglo-American Corporation as well as the ‘deBeers’ diamond and gold cartel. The said gentleman was very daunted by him and asked him to come up to the media tycoons whenever he needed help and assistance. Hailing from United States of America and for this paper, his basis is linked with the super power of the world. The root of Rupert Murdoch’s figure has been his hard work and courage and adds to that his clear headed vision and persuasiveness towards achieving the goals that he had set in his life from day one. However, it is another story that he was able to achieve what he had thought of in the beginning with the aid of people who were directly connected and concerned with the related businesses like the heads and owners of media giants. More than that, his father’s guidance really paid dividends as it paved the way for his coming life as well as a brighter, more secure future. (Mcgarvey, 2002) One should not forget that the basis however has also been his and his father’s enormous wealth that really did what was wanted of him in crunch situations and times as essentially wealth and luck combined means success on the doorsteps for anyone in the world of today. One needs to be skilled enough as well as intelligent too to get the meaning of his success which Rupert fortunately was to understand and gain insight from. The strategies that Rupert Murdoch used included getting along with the top bosses and the people who mattered the most in different media giants and companies over a period of time as it really helped him immensely in gaining reputation that was more positive than being otherwise as well as building a sound rapport with the former that for all intents and purposes opened doors for his success and different endeavors in which he stepped into every now and then. (Rohm, 2002) The way by which he acquired wealth and power goes hand in hand with the way Americans do and have been doing over some time now and this manner will continue to remain the same until and unless people change their perceptions, understandings and responsibilities that they owe to the common man of the street who is equally suited to their job and neither more than them nor any less. The power that has been wielded by Rupert Murdoch in his life long journey has both been a story of positivism as well as negativity. It has stated how a man can link up with the media giants and become a tycoon himself in the related field. (Renfro, 1997) On the other hand, it has also shown a person of his caliber achieving success a number of times in his life through sheer hard work and commitment. Hence it has been a two way story and the assessment is not that easy to put together. A Chinese business leader at par with her American counterpart Rupert Murdoch – Chin-Ning Chu has to her credit the bestselling business management book both in the continent of Asia as well as in the Pacific Rim. Her name manifests the meaning of “journey to peace” and thus offers the Chinese an understanding related with her undertakings and works which have carried out the very same over the years. She is hailed as the modern day Chinese American business consultant and her works have been immense so to speak. At a very tender age, Chin-Ning Chu flew with her entire tribe to Taiwan since the Communists took over the Mainland China in the year 1949. Her family used to be rich and affluent before they left China but soon after they turned into faceless immigrants as they touched the Taiwanese lands. It was in the year 1969 that Chin-Ning Chu left for America and she carried with her a suitcase comprising of two books – The Art of War and Thick Black Theory. She had always thought that these two books would pretty much shape up her life and give a meaning to the basis of her life so that she could achieve success and happiness in the coming times. (Richter, 2000) Also the fact that these books taught her so much about life in general, she thought that these two books would help her understand the people around her in America. As a business leader, Chin-Ning Chu has under her belt a number of different businesses. She is known as a business personality who has a high stature and who understands how the basis of business is run. She has different undertakings in California from where these businesses basically originate. One can easily underline the “warrior” philosophy to be inherent within her business undertakings which are related with the Asian origins. Thus she has made sure that these warrior strategies are put in line with her application of the Asian business whilst taking decisions which are pertinent to her undertakings and the like. This warrior philosophy has been the basis for her comprehending the strategic thinking which has been doing the rounds of the business, no matter the same hails from the corporate world or from her daily life. It is also a known fact that her personal life has more or less been dictated by her experiences which she has attained over the years since stepping into the business world and making a name for her own self. When one speaks of the personal development aspects, Chin-Ning Chu has conducted a number of different workshops in the related domains. She has also delivered lectures which have suggested her understanding of the business domains and it can easily be stated that she has mastered what she has learned throughout her life. (Eubanks, 2000) Her business basis is pretty strong and it accounts for making one and all comprehend the very basics related with the different undertakings which they would at some point in time carry out within their lives. She has also touched upon subjects pertaining to peak performance strategy, Asian negotiation regimes and tactical moves, leadership across a diverse set of platforms, cross cultural training and development issues and lastly her spirituality basis related with business or otherwise. It is with the understanding that she has applied in these disciplines or areas of business and personal understanding that has made Chin-Ning Chu’s personality such a huge hit amongst the business fraternities and they have come to accept her as someone who can bring about a change in the lives of the commoners. This is so achieved as far as her thinking mindset is concerned since she has enacted mechanisms to make people feel at ease with their business undertakings and this she has done in the easiest manner possible, time and time again. (Mcneilly, 2003) Chin-Ning Chu has clients in more than 60 nations of the world. Since she is an author of repute, her readership also spreads across a number of nations all over the globe. Different presidents and prime ministers also take heed from her books and try to understand the value of being a business leader as Chin-Ning Chu is and how this could bring a real change for the positive in their tenures as presidents and prime ministers or at some other positions of dignity and authority. This even includes chairmen and CEOs of companies which have been listed in the Fortune 500 corporations which speak highly of the success that Chin-Ning Chu has attained over the years through her business sense and more than anything else, her commitment towards excellence brought together by the hard work and devotion that she put in all this while. Her books have outsold those written by Stephen Covey, Tom Peters and Tony Robbins – more so within Asia and Australia as well as in other regions of the world. In the end, it would be befitting to state here that her work and commitment towards business excellence has been hailed by all and sundry – with the likes of CNN, USA Today, Washington Post, People’s Daily in China and others to name a few. It was because of these feats that she was honored as the “Woman of the Year” in the year 1996 by an organization aptly named as Women of the World. References Zinsmeister, Karl. (1997).
