Understanding the opponent ensures that one develops countermeasures to deal with the offers presented. The confidence gathered ensures that the person does not allow the negotiations to deteriorate below the reservation point. In her negotiation, Janice knew that her reservation point was $12 per hour and anything she got more than the amount would be the best alternative.
