Impact of Tuition Fees Rise in UK Universities Impact of Tuition Fees Rise in UK Universities Introduction According to Garner (2015), there is an estimated 25 percent decline in the number of full-time undergraduates in UK Universities. Experts interpret this decline as the cause of changes in new fees system with charges as high as € 9000. The trend has caused a change in the population of students from 23,440 to 17, 890 (Garner 2015, p.1). The trend is affirmed by predictions in Autum 2012 that there would be a possible increase in nearly 70 Universities (Shift Learning, 2012, p.3). According to reports, universities set their tuition fees.

The government considered the lifting of universities cap on tuition fees (Grice, 2014, p.1). The decision encouraged and changed systems towards an American style of education, allowing UK universities to change their education tuition fees. Moreover, changes in the American education system brought impacts on the tuition fees especially in the UK universities.Effect on the Number of Students and Fees RiseThe number of students has a negative effect on the rise of fees in the UK universities.

Students tend to drop out of school, when different institutions raise their fee in UK universities. It was because fees place exclusively different demands on the students’ financial resources (Oxford Research & Nordic Council of Minister, 2013, p. 45). Moreover, students’ numbers fall because of major change from no payment to demands for full payment of fees in UK universities. According to Chitty (2014), fee increase has challenges for majority of students and parents. New Demands on the Students Financial ResourcesAccording to Oxford Research and Nordic council of ministers (2013), the rise of fees in UK universities generates new demands on students.

The new demands create a shocking effect on the students especially in the UK universities. Furthermore, the shocking effect develops because the introduction of fees turns previous free education condition on fees payment to a demanding student pay in full. These demands on fees rise causes shock and decrease in the number of students enrolled in UK universities. In addition, the shock effect, contributes to strains on students financial resources and final increase of dropouts in UK universities to students who are unable to comply with the new increase of students fees.

Competition in an Open MarketIncrease of fees in the UK universities has an effect in the open market of education systems (Tight et al., 2009, p. 35). Moreover, Competition in open markets develops because of rivalry with other institutions. Competition in an open market and the rise of fees in UK universities has different advantages in the education sector. Furthermore, Nordic countries and UK universities have a great impact on the open market than the rest of learning institutions in the education sector, when fees are raised.

ScholarshipsThe trend of fee rise and scholarships has both positive and negative effects UK university students. It develops changes in scholarship schemes since fee rise either increases sponsors for scholarships or withdraws sponsors. According to Palfreyman and Tapper (2014), the rise of fees depends on the sponsors of scholarships, as some will continue with sponsorships mechanisms despite the increase of decrease of fees in the UK universities. Scholarships compensate for impacts of fees on UK university students.

Hence, it either increases or decreases the number of students in the UK universities.ConclusionThe impact of tuition fees in UK universities has both positive and negative effects. Depending on different factors, the increase of tuition fee may either develop and increase enrollment in the UK universities or decrease the number of students enrolled in the institution.Bibliography Chitty, C 2014, Education Policy in Britain Contemporary Political Studies, Palgrave Macmillan.Garner, R 2015, Tuition Fee Hike Blamed As International Students at UK Universities Fall By A Quarter, The Independent.
