Why Am I Interested in Business - Personal Statement Example

Module Personal ment I am an international from China who has averaged a GPA of 3.49 since I joined the Santa Barbara City College. My ambition is to get admission into USC, CSU or UCLA. From an early age, I knew that I wanted to study business administration, so I worked hard in high school to further my dreams of pursuing a degree in business administration. However, after passing highly in junior high school and joining one of the best performing senior high schools in China – NanJing Foreign Language School – I realized that the school had limited capability in teaching business and economics. This prompted me to transfer to the United States. Moving to the United States was an easy choice because it is one of the most developed countries in the world. In addition, the country has one of the highest rated education systems in the world, with excellent teaching and learning facilities. The United States also has one of the best business environments in the world, with infrastructure and credit facilities available to support all types of business. In addition, the University of California and the California State University are one of the most prestigious colleges in the world. In terms of schooling and future job prospects, I am sure that coming to the United States is the best decision I have made in my life. I have met many people here, and most of them have influenced me in a very positive way. I have always been interested in business. In fact, it is more than an interest; it is a passion. I hope to establish my own company in the United States and live the American dream. I am ready to put in the hours to make this dream possible. My passion for business is evident in the fact that I started managing my first business when I was only fourteen years old. My family owns a business and I was determined to contribute towards its success. I also wanted to self-actualize myself by translating my passion into hard work and tangible results. Therefore, I helped my father run the business and gained invaluable experience in this regard. I was very excited to manage this business because it was located just across my school, giving it a lot of attention and customers. My fellow students always came to the store and admired the work I did. However, when I went to school in the United States I left the store in my father’s management. During my time working at the store, my father informed me that revenues increased by 10% because of my ability to influence my colleagues in school to buy more products from the store. The company managed to introduce new products and services as a result of an increase in the number and diversity of customers. During my time as a student at the Santa Barbara City College, I registered in a volunteer society known as Day of Caring. This society visits the underprivileged in the society in nursing homes, homeless centers and retirement homes. Members of the club also visit farms to talk to farmers and provide them with advice on how to apply the best method that enable higher yields and better management of crops and animals. When we visit the underprivileged, we offer them comfort and basic items which help them cope with the rigors of life. We also engage in cleaning and general talk to allow them to express themselves and use our interactions also act as a therapeutic way to ease them of their pains and troubles. However, the most fulfilling experience the club has allowed me to have is interacting with children. Their innocence and enthusiasm rubbed on me in a positive way and allowed me to gain a new perspective of life. The experiences I shared with children, by providing them with gifts, taking them to zoos and other attractions made me a better person in terms of appreciating life and the people around me. I must state that before I joined this society I lived a pretty bland life that involved few interactions. However, the club has given me a new lease of life. The love I receive and give in these interactions has led me to work harder in school so that I can help alleviate some of the problems that these people have. I know that I will not be able to visit them all the time, so if I excel in school I can start a charity to help them one day. The SBCC has one of the best social environments I have ever been in. The college has provided me with a setting that I had never imagined I would be in. The people at the college come from all over the world and all walks of life. Some of the students I have met share experiences that I cannot imagine ever having. For example, I have shared facilities and experiences with students from Africa, Europe and many other continents that I have only read about in books or watched on TV. Now I get to meet them on a daily basis and share lectures with them. I have realized that I have an ability to identify potential in people and motivate them to pursue their ambitions by looking within themselves and exploiting their potential. I would like to be a leader; a transactional and transformational business leader who will contribute immensely to societal development. I am looking forward to joining UCLA, CSU or USC and exploit their excellent facilities and learning environments to become a better person and build a better future for my community and both my home and adopted countries. I believe that these universities will help me to help my community in China as well as the people of California. I have always viewed education as the best tool to bring change in the society and make people’s lives better.
