Outline for Security on Campus Objectives and Accomplishments Sustaining a safe environment on campus cannot learn when they feel they are unsafe. Security gives students and other university staff the peace of mind needed in studying and other roles they play in school (Phaneuf 5).2. Looking for new methods to teach students about safetyCrime just as its perpetrators is always evolving into deadlier forms each day. However, students and university staff rarely have the time to educate themselves about security.

This combination means that a whole new approach must installed to guarantee that students learn how to protect themselves. Methods of Improving Safety1. Know what people are concerned about to know what to improveIt is important to question students about their most serious security concerns. Enquiring from them means that the security improvement measures will be appreciated and taken seriously by the students.2. Study what other campuses have done to improve safetyThe researcher knows that problems regarding security have been around for a long time.

It is wise to enquire what other campuses have done to deal with insecurity and boost the security of their schools.3. Consult experts of safety on how to improve safetyThere are professionals who have studied crime, criminals and psychology. They can help identify the weakest areas in security on the campus. Moreover, they can appraise and audit the campus security apparatus and staff against the crime in the campus area.4. Increasing the number of CCTVs around the campusThis will provide video records of the movement of students around the campus.

Students or other people showing suspicious behaviour will be easily noted by security personnel from the command centre who will remain on high alert. Students will complain about their privacy. However, they will be issued with a privacy policy from the campus that will indicate the records will only be used for security purposes (Phaneuf 48).5. Improve lighting on campus according to expert’s recommendationCriminals like lurking in the dark. The dark conceals their identities and thus evidence of a crime cannot be traced back to them.

There should be enough lighting. Lighting will increase surveillance by security personnel and movement can be easily noted in the dark.6. Improve accessibility to vulnerable rooms on campus to prevent theftVulnerable rooms are those that are easy to get. Vulnerable rooms on campus, especially those that contain valuables such as university electronics, exam papers and so on should not be easily accessible. The doors should be made from metal and cameras should be installed so that any suspicious movement or attempt to break in is traced back to the criminal.7. Increase awareness of exit routes in case of criminal activityExit routes are very critical in times of emergency.

Death results from stampedes. Exit routes should be marked clearly so that, in case of a disaster, students can quickly escape.8. Improve how to reach a policeman in case of an emergencyPolice officers are implementers of the law. When a crime occurs, they should be informed so that they restore law and order. Criminals are then arrested. Early reporting can help prevent a crime from taking place.Proof of success1. Observe crime rates after changes and compare it to previous yearsA post mortem should be done after the installation of security apparatus in the campus.

It will measure the effectiveness of the system. Weaknesses can be dealt with appropriately.Cited WorksPhaneuf, Shannon Womer. Security in Schools Its Effect on Students. El Paso: LFB Scholarly Pub. LLC, 2009.
