Based on the Americas census statistics, most of the Americans are poor, broke besides others getting even poorer. Research has concluded that the number of Americans experiencing poverty augmented by 15% from the year 2000 to 2006. Most workers earn less than $10 per hour (Amandeo). The income of Americans have been polarized with overwhelming CEO reparation packages at the top, which stagnates earnings of the middle besides offering stumpy wages combined with increasingly uncertain work provisions at the foundation.

As relayed by different economists over the last two decades, the income gap has steadily widened between the rich and the poor. Hence, this shows the utter state of inequality currently propagated by corporations. This study seeks to show how corporations are causing inequality in US besides offering an appropriate strategic solution aimed at changing the trend by analyzing Apples’ retail business. Apple Retail Corporation is chain of retail stores owned and operated by Apple International, which deals with computers and other related electronics.

It provides a wide range of employment opportunities although questioned for its contribution to America’s economic equality. While the company enjoys massive wealth from the active contribution of its employees, the workers enjoy very little of the affluence (Segal). Contrary to what numerous Americans believe, Apple employees do not benefit much from the wealth they make for their renowned corporation. They end up feeling exploited as the key executives enjoy what they have toiled for in the name they are young people fresh from colleges who do not have much expenses (Segal).

In the video ‘Wealth Inequality in US’, we realize that the top 1% of Americans have 24% of the nation’s income and own almost a quarter of the entire state’s wealth (Politizane). In Apple Inc., executives take advantage of the large number of college leavers by offering them low wages compared to their contributions besides denying them other employment benefits like commissions. In addition, despite Apple being among well paying companies, wages paid to employees do not correspond to the sum the fetch for the company, hence the saying ‘Long on Loyalty but Short on Pay’ (Segal).

Most of the Apple’s capital is in the pockets of few, hence leading to wealth inequality in the country. The company does not provide job security too because an employee’s period in the company is very short-lived, mostly two and a half years (Segal). This is to the extent of quitting employment in Apple retail shops seems to be the best option for most employees due to high rate of exploitation in the company (Segal). Correspondingly, Apple does not offer commissions to its workers and limits time for taking breaks.

Although all this happens to create more wealth, employees earn less while key managers pocket large sums of money. At some point, majority of employees realize that they will not rise as high as they can due to these limitations (Segal). This renders most of them becoming demoralized because they are not seeing any future advancements in the company.As exposed in the video ‘Wealth inequality in US’, local citizens work tirelessly towards enriching themselves in numerous corporations but end up earning less (Politizane).

Much wealth goes into the pockets of a few people holding high positions in these corporations. To solve the issue of inequality, the government should understand why inequality is growing. Creation of awareness through forums and discussions with private sectors can solve the issue in corporations. The other resolution encompasses improving employment standards, like lowest wages and overtime reimbursements for employees to reduce inequality. Since, this is what will bring more money to the marginalized workers besides raising the ingot for other people coming straight from colleges.

Hence, this shifts earnings from shareholders to wage earners (Ivanova). The government through its respective authorities should come up with effective mechanisms needed to strengthen unions.
