Nokia lists Nokia as the fifth top brand of 2009. Nokia is one of the leading mobile brands of the world, with almost 38% share of global device market. It manufactures phones for almost every major market segment and protocol, including GSM, CDMA and W-CDMA. Nokia is well known for its sleek designs in mobile devices, stable device software/firmware, and many other innovative features.
Nokia, over a period of few years, has gained highest trust and faith of consumers. According to the Economist, world’s second largest financial magazine, Nokia gained prestigious rank from 71st to 4th among world’s known brands. (Nokias brand Equity survey., 2007). The logo, which reflects the company’s mission “Nokia- Connecting people”, explains the reason of being the leading brand in itself.
Nokia has not only understood its consumers’ needs but has also tried and reached its consumer’s utmost requirements. These include providing them with better connectivity, navigation, music optimized functionality, addictive games, business/email services, video and much more. Nokia has always made sure to give its consumers the best voice quality, better battery times and user-friendly GUIs - Graphical User Interfaces.
Furthermore, from developing these creative designs/features to growing its offer of Internet usage and its enterprise solutions and software, Nokia has always focused in to give best deals to its consumers. Not only that, Nokia’s new merger with Siemens has provided its customers with equipment, solutions and services for communications networks through Nokia-Siemens networks. (Nokia emerges as Indias most trusted brands., 2010). With qualities like such, Nokia owes to have the highest brand equity among its consumers.

The reason that these brands are still in my memory is because of the strong and lasting image that they have built in the consumer market. The brand’s position in the PLC does affect consumers’ choices to a great extent. Consider as example the computer manufacturer: Sony.
Sony is also one of the leading electronic brands of the world and was established in 1958. Since then, Sony has tracked a long history of innovation and inventions from its first transistor radios to the first Trinitron color television in 1968, the color video-cassette in 1971, the popular Walkman in 1979, the worlds first CD player in 1982, the 3.5-inch floppy disk in 1989 and many others. (Sony electronics news and information.). Being a pioneer in the bringing innovation into electronic devices, Sony has well established its VAIO brand in the laptop market.
The VAIO is preferred by consumers for its latest and catchy looks, enhanced performance, light weight designs and the use of its products as “Sony Style”. Sony has always worked hard to bring in the best VAIO products with latest inventions and innovation in all its series. The company has always found these four letters “S.O.N.Y” its greatest asset. With a fine tagline “make.believe”, it has indeed well established its market and connection with its consumers by understanding their requirements.
Sony’s VAIO has gained a maturity stage now in the PLC and it certainly affected my recall since it is a recognized company and has a long history of ground-breaking products for its users. All these aspects contribute to my choice of VAIO as the best notebook/laptop manufacturer and hence, I would always be a loyal Sony customer.
