The success of tilapia fishing has been its profitable aspect due to its omnivorous feeding habits, its rapid growth that allows high populations in the ponds, its high tolerance level allows the species to be harvested in large quantities (Halweil and Mastny, 56).
The reason for tilapia farming is that its farming helps in the acquirement of Omega 6 and Omega 3 that is so important in the human body. Tilapia farming has also helped to reduce the disease occurrence of the fish species. Tilapia's population in the world is around 1,500000 metric tonnes.

1. Trout
Trout fish are native fish of the northwest American parts, but in recent days they have been introduced into the rest of the world. The most cultivated trout are the rainbow trout due to its hardy species. It has been successful farming because of the tolerability of the fish species in a wide range of temperatures (0-27̊ C), trout fish are also farmed due to their ability to survive in freshwater. Carp fish are of many different types such as common carp, grass carp among other types. Carp fish is a native fish from Asia and Europe. Carp fish has a hurtful effect on the other wild fish, this is because they interfere with the vegetation found on the sea bed, and hence other fish starve to death or migrate to other areas (Halweil and Mastny, 67).

Fish farming has had a negative effect on the environment in the world. Most of the wet areas along the coast of the planets have been dried up as most of them are cleared in order to create space for putting up a fish farm. It is known that fish release wastes into the water, resulting in the accumulation of waste in the ponds. The release of these wastes into lakes, rivers and seas leads to an increase in contamination of sea and lake water (Halweil and Mastny 2008).

Another con in farmed fish is the risk of eating the fish from the farms. The high levels of chemicals used to treat the fish in the ponds in order to avoid disease prevalence in turn risk the health of the humans (Halweil and Mastny, 87).

The pros
Fish farming has provided humans with a constant source of seafood and lowered their prices. The creation of ponds has also boosted the availability of fish even to areas that previously had no fish. Seafood is also a source of important vitamins and nutrients (Halweil and Mastny 2008).

Fish farming has also become a good source of living for many people in the world. Fishermen get to enjoy more time in the comfort of their homes with a stable income at hand (Halweil and Mastny, 94).
