College An experiment was carried out to find out the rate of photosynthesis using different wavelengths of light. Essentially, light energy is a crucial factor in photosynthesis hence the need to test for the difference in the light spectrum. The hypothesis was; different wavelengths of light result into diverse photosynthetic rates. The control variable used was white light on the plant while green and blue light were the dependent variables. White light contains seven colors inclusive of blue and green, hence their dependency.

White light was expected to produce the highest amount of oxygen meaning it would give the highest rate of photosynthesis as opposed to blue and green. Nonetheless, blue light indicated the highest rate of oxygen produced followed by white and lastly green. The plants were exposed to similar conditions that are required for photosynthesis apart from the light wavelengths hence the test. At their peak absorbance, blue light gave the highest rate of photosynthesis.Green light is found at the middle of the light spectrum therefore it does not take part in photosynthesis rather the light is reflected by the plant upon exposure.

White light having a mixture of about seven colors, was absorbed and used up in photosynthesis. The expected results differed from the statistical results probably due to the filters which did not allow sufficient amount of light to be absorbed for the plant photosynthetic functions. In conclusion, different light wavelengths result to difference in photosynthetic rates.Bar graphREFERENCESLiving Science Laboratories, & Learning Materials, Inc. (1962). The Green plant.
