EMMA LARKIN’S FINDING GEORGE ORWELL IN BURMA Emma Larkin exposed the military dictatorship and poor governance in Burma. In her pursuit of finding George Orwell in Buma, she exemplified the poor democracy in Burma. The slavery imposed by poor leadership compromised the elementary human rights. Hence, citizens of this land were denied the power to make a sound judgement on what was good for them as a nation. The military and influential people placed themselves in a decision-making position to undermine the progressions of the populaces.

Hence, she illustrated the poor governance that other sociologists and jurists analysed, examined, and disputed. The army heightened a state of lawlessness that denied and extorted the people’s little resources to fulfil their political responsibility and unsustainable democracy in their society.The military government of Burma has showed similarities with the British colonial government in many ways for example it led to split of allegiances among different ethnic groups and also between the indigenous people of Burma (Larkin, 2011).

 Also ethnic minorities were not allowed to acceses land, it also resulted to religious conflicts between the muslims, budhist, hindus and Christians in Burma. Their was aslo displacement of citizen both inside and outside Burma. Besides forced labour by the military has also been expirieced which has led to the human rights violation as well as explotaiton of the minority goups.Some of the tools used by post colonial government of Burma was one the tgroup identity where the minority were given the priority to manage local properties and istitutions.

secondly rebellion rebellion was employed where the minority were rqruited into the police army surpressing the majority Burman. Thirdly the nationalist tool was used where the Burmese language and ethnicity was emphasized because of the cultural and religious diversity of Burman. The fear to loose power as suggested by Aug snag suu kyi led to all injustices of human right violation, ethnicity,forced labour and so on in Burman. Leaving Burma alone fear has been employed in many countries for example employees who advocate for their rights are threatened to be arrested hence they fear and step down.

Some individuals are threatened they will be killed if they happen to expose corruption issues in the government out of fear they keep silence (Larkin, 2011). Also fear to loose jobs by exposing injustice acts of influential people in the society for example polititians. Fear of failing exams for students for failing to hearken to lecturers proposal especially female student, sexual harassment.Aung San in her speech mentions that the fear of loosing power subjects those who exercise it into corruption (Larkin, 2011).

 He mentions four types of corruption which are exercised in the society out of fear for example deviating from the right way for the sake of whom we love. Also defending those with ill motives in the society and taking bribe to cover up evil. She also puts it clear that the fear of suffering, passing through humiliation or getting injured can be as a result of ill motive. The other lesson that comes out is that it is difficult to eliminate ignorance unless truth finds its way. And also she terms corruption to be relatives with fear and in any society where fear is a pillar then defiinately corruption is deeply rooted (Larkin, 2011).

 Also another lesson learned is those who are courgeous in the society free themselves from the wrath of oppression.In conclusion, the history of Burma can be well related to Aung San speecch of freedom from fear. It brings it out clearly that the injustices faced in the society are as a result of fear which leads to corruptio. Refflecting on the tools used by the post colonial government of Barma which was to cause fear and tention to retain power. Hence fear hear is portrayed as a vice promoting corruption.
