AnthropologyQuestion 1 Within my society, politicians finance their election campaigns in order to win over voters to their camps. In this case, they give money to voters in form of cash and gifts to win voters over to their sides. In a similar way, the big man of Kawelka uses his wealth to finance his continued staying in power by giving part of his wealth to his supporters. In addition, politicians within my society will offer their cronies and supporters gifts. In this case, they give their supporters tax breaks, government contracts, and many other things.
This is similar to Ongka who gave out pork to his supports. Politicians within my society also engage in public ceremonies that created the much-needed publicity to them. For example, a ribbon-cutting ceremony has become synonymous with politicians within my society. This practice is similar to a Moka ceremony that created publicity to Ongka and enhanced his stay in power.Question 2 Any nation has a right to protect its founding principles and ideals. For France, banning all conspicuous religious symbols from state schools is a step towards protecting secularism or ensuring that the state and religion remained two distinct entities.
In effect, this makes the ban justifiable since a state should protect and guard the ideals that contributed to its formation. Conversely, it is evident that secularism is an indication of advancement of civilized society, which strengthens the case for this legislation. However, the fact that the legislation inhibits the right for self-expression in clothing, which makes the ban appear like a restriction of religious freedoms and beliefs (Williams).
