The Role of Art in Modern Society In modern society, several companies have adapted the use of art in advertising and selling their products. Art is very useful in advertising because of its attractive nature. Modern advertising is used by companies that seek to increase consumption of their products or services, by branding their products through associating it with a certain image that has specific qualities for the customers. Advertising is a powerful educational tool that is used to reach and motivate several audiences. Through advertisements, the product’s existence is justified and used for the interest of the public. Advertisements can be used to inform, educate, motivate and market. Advertising using artwork is beneficial because most artworks are placed at strategic positions along busy areas, where a large number of people will see the advertisement. The pictures or other artwork used are seen by people whether they like it or not. Most of the places used for displaying artwork are used by the same people regularly, meaning that the artwork is seen by the same people many times, so it is more likely to remain in their memory. Advertisement can be placed at places that are difficult to reach. Places like rural areas and farms may be difficult to reach; therefore placing the advertisement there will allow the people to know about the product. Some of the companies that use art in advertisement include; the Nescafe Company, MacDonald’s company Coca Cola Company and Apple among others. These companies have used art work for a long time, and for this reason, their products have been bought by customers worldwide. Artworks used by the companies include simple and detailed drawings that are used to get the message across. This image was used by Apple. The company used this advertisement to capture the attention of people. It was used to advertise iPods and iTunes. Its eye-catching design advertises the numerous features of the products that can be bought and enjoyed. The message delivered by the advertisement was that if customers combine an iPod with iTunes, they would have an endless enjoyable source of entertainment at their fingertips. This advertisement was used for Heineken. It’s a good of a simple yet appealing advertisement with small details that capture the attention of many eyes. It was used with a three dimensional concept that features a hand coming from the background to grab the bottle of beer. This picture was used by the Nescafe Company to advertise their product. It is very detailed and appealing. It was used to capture coffee lovers attention through the painting of a great moment shared by people enjoying a cup of coffee, and below it an attractive table setting. This artwork is attractive because of the quality of the painting and the passion behind it. This painting was used by the Nescafe Company to advertise its product. The painting shows a woman with a basket full of coffee seeds, and beside her are beautiful coffee leaves. This particular artwork is appealing because it shows the natural taste and beauty of the product. This impressive advertisement was used by the DIY store with the tagline, “Trust in Your Hands”. The advert is appealing because it is a direct marketing that will certainly catch the eye of every passerby. This artwork was used for the Panasonic’s nose hair trimmer. The advertisement amused many people because it was built around actual wires and poles. This advertised the need for the devise to showcase its safety cutting system. It passes the message very well. The McDonald’s restaurant used this design to advertise the meals offered. This design is very appealing because it displays the fast food menu, with the sun casting the shadow on every meal that goes in hand with the time of day that the meal would be eaten. This is a very innovative and great design. The sundial goes on to create a shadow of the restaurant’s M which tells where the meals would be found. Historic art monuments like paintings, architecture and sculptures are also used by several filmmakers to advertise their work. The fine arts are often included in additional forms like films, conceptual art, photography and printmaking. Sculptures are three-dimensional artworks which are designed by shaping plastic or hand materials. They are created by using materials that can be molded hence considered as among the plastic arts. Sculptures are important because they can be created to represent very important people and great events. Sculptures also fulfill the need for artists to send their message to the audience. Sculptures enable artists to express their ideas and feelings. Art displayed in film posters and advertisements are often given an artistic and decorative dress. They are released throughout the film’s life at different moments. They are made according to the nature of the film, like some are dark and frightening. Others are brightly colored, informative while some are teasing with very little information to keep the audience waiting and longing to watch the film. Artwork made for films bring together the beauty of the graphics with the interesting story in the film to make it appealing to the audience. Sculptures are useful because they allow artists to make or create objects of beauty according to the level of their imagination. They can be used to deliver very useful and valuable information concerning different cultures. Through sculptures, people can learn about different cultures around the world, from the artists’ ability to showcase ideas of the communities. Sculptures are long-lasting, so using them for advertisement serves for a long time because they do not get worn out. This advertisement was used to promote the movie Kill Bill. The billboard design shows the actor Uma Thurman with her priceless Hatorri Hanzo, and the wall spattered with blood. The setting was made at a busy Auckland intersection to showcase the local channel screening of the movie. This architectural design was used to advertise the film by Jacques Tati. It was used to show how the movie demonstrates modernization. The film maker shows the way people interact within the impact of modernization in the city. The movie gives attention to the environment at the time, showing its modern characteristics. The result of industrialization is displayed by the small objects in the interiors to the outside part of the city’s urban plan. This architectural design was used by the filmmaker of the film ‘Dogville’. The design is meant to showcase the creativity of the film. It is filmed in a minimal way with a parable created by the fictional statement. This particular art is appealing because it makes the audience want to watch the film and enjoy the strange setting. This architectural design was used to describe the film ‘Inception’. This illustrated how architects can easily manipulate dreams within dreams. This picture shows the ability of architects to use their imagination to create an environment. It was significant for the film maker of this particular film to use this picture because it clearly describes what is in his mind, and brings out his imagination. The audience aimed also determines the kind of artwork to be used. Artwork requires a lot of creativity and passion. Most companies go for creativity and durability. The use of historical monuments can be used to attract people of all ages because the message can be understood by all. However, some artworks are so detailed and can only be used to reach a specific audience. Alcohol companies design their advertisements focusing on an adult audience. Companies that make products mostly used by kids and younger adults use advertisements with a message focused on that specific audience.
