The Movie, Quentin Tarantino’s Kill Bill is a good example that uses these techniques in the transportation of feelings in order to make the audience more captivated and active as they watch the films. This essay therefore provides a comparative analysis of the use of editing and sound techniques for the film Quentin Tarantino’s KILL BILL Vol.1-2 (2003, 2004).One of the most amazing features of kill bill is the varying styles in each chapter that makes the film to be full of a diversified editing techniques. The set up is incredible and allows the director to capture the entire story in a single shot. The application of the various stylistic devices is as outlined in the rest of the essay body. The split screen enables us to see Thurman lying unconscious in bed and at the same time we also see the approaching assassin. The dramatic value, in this case, the split screen could also suggest purported proximity of the victim to the assassin physically who are made to share the same frame (Tarantino & Peary, 13). The action needed precise timing considering the double and the sound of the Assassin footsteps was heard before he appeared. In addition, the shot used capture Elle Driver appears to be animating going leftwards from the right. This is an example of a scene illustrating mastery of the director in capturing much information with short time. As can be seen, The Bride is visualized in her death bed on the left while another assassin is also shown in a distinctive way. The use of freeze frame is also well articulated where the author applies additional font to facilitate introduction of a Darryl Hannah into the scene. Further, another outcoming use of split screen occurs at the scene involving the Bride and O-Ren. The technique used to capture the two actions that occur within the scene as the Bride challenges the latter to show herself (Tarantino & Peary, 15). On one side, the director shows us the reaction of O-Ren while on the other the scene depicts The Bride’s lips. This is much effective for the film. Secondly, the other editing technique used is the master shot, which is a film recording of an entire dramatized scene, from the start to finish, also, from an angle which keeps all the players in view. Usually, the master shot is the first shot checked off during the shooting of a scene; it is the foundation of the camera coverage. In the film, this is depicted when the bride awakens after staying in a coma for four years. She is horrified to find that she is no longer pregnant and the she goes ahead to kill the hospital worker who had been raping her while she was at the comatose, then she takes his truck and then teaches herself how to walk again. In which case, several shots have been taken and added to form the master shot. The other editing techniques that are also applied in the film Kill Bill include; match cut. The director uses this to transition from one scene to another thereby causing film to have an effective continuity of action. For instance, when in Japan the young Ishiis parents are murdered in front of her by the Yakuza and later on takes vengeance on the Yakuza boss making her to become the new boss after training as an elite assassin. In which case, the match cut helps in giving connection between the two different events. The film also makes use of spectacular sound edits to make the film even more lively. The scenes are well synchronized with the sound leading to creation of sound bridges for each scene. In the film kill Bill, even if you cannot see the horrific image, you can still hear the cracking of the bones, the blood spray, and the victim let out dying breath or one last shriek. A lot of the sound effects are created by the artificial use of the the FX sound effects which creates an atmosphere of the real life situations and also keep the audience glued in both either of the visual or auditory senses. The music as used in the movie, by the editor Tarantino is an eclectic soundtrack that has many musical genres. The 15 second excerpt played from the opening of the ironeside theme music is used as the bride revenge motif, which flares up a red- tinged flashback whenever she is in the company of her next target. In conclusion, the creativity that is applied while editing a film determines the quality and and the size of the market of the film.
