Analysis of Mambo Girl, Once Upon A Time In China, The Days Of Being Wild, The Killer - Movie Review Example

Question Jet Li’s Wong Fei- huang character goes hand in hand with the martial arts hero’s integrity and nationalism in the film Once Upon a Time in China. His character puts him in a position of physical strength. However, he does not use it maliciously, for personal gain or at any provocation; instead he uses it for defense as per the martial arts law that proves his integrity and gives him a high moral standing. His nationalism is seen in his willingness to teach the Black Flag Army martial arts to defend his country.

Question 2 The days of being wild stars a character named Yuddy. The references to time and timepieces signify the temporary and fast-paced nature of time where Yuddy fails to put his life together because he wants to search for his mother. His mother’s rejection sends him in a self-destructive brawl in which he has meaningless relationships and is unable to commit to the relationships. The reference of timepieces shows his indecisive nature where he initiates one minute and two minutes relationships with women.

Question 3 In the movie, Mambo Girl, Ge Lan left her adopted family in order to look for her birth mother. Unfortunately, she is rejected by mother her despite all she went through to find her in the dance clubs. The implication of Ge Lan searching for her mother is that it taught her that family comprises of the people that care about a person. The people that surround an individual accept him or her no matter what. On the other hand, a blood relative like Grace’s mother can reject her own daughter.

Question 4 In the film, The Killer, Detective Lee could justify his killing of the crime boss Wong on the grounds of morality, vengeance, and pragmatism. Killing him is a pragmatic move because he is the cause of all evil in the film ad it will lead to the collapse of the triad which keeps causing trouble. Detective Lee is a protector of the innocent and has a moral obligation to protect the world from evil people like Wong. Wong kills innocent people for personal gain and out of malice. He sends men to kill the assassin to avoid paying him for his work, beats up people, and kills detective Lee’s partner.
