Lecturer: Topic: Analysis of the film Inception The film inception is about the experience that people go through every daythat involves dreaming and is about an experience that is more relatable. It is not supposed to question an actual reality but just considers the connection that exists between reality and dreams and whether a person can be in the dreams of another person. This means that the dream can therefore become an alternate reality since the dream will become a form of communication that is the same as using a telephone (Nolan 9). Generally the hero in the film is testing a young architect by presenting a challenge to her to come up with a maze and the ending of the movie is difficult to interpret unless the whole film has been watched carefully so that one can know how it got there. The whole film is characterized by processes that involve fighting through shrouding sheets of reality and dreams, where realities exist within dreams and dreams also exist without realities. This therefore makes it a juggling act that can be considered to be spectacular. The film always makes the person that is viewing it to be adrift in time and also experience and it is difficult to specifically point out the connection that exists between real time and the time that reality is going on. The hero in the film clearly states that it is impossible to remember that beginning of dream. He also states that the dream that appear to last for many hours in actual sense only last a short time. He goes on to state that one can never really know when they are dreaming, and in the process of dreaming, it is possible that one can be in the dreams of another person. Having looked at it this way, it then becomes difficult to draw a conclusion on what is a dream and what is reality. Cobb who is a character that is played by Leonardo DiCaprio is a business raider of the highest order and is in the business of invading the minds of targets to steal the ideas that they might have. An influential billionaire goes on to hire him so that he can do the opposite of what he actually does which will mean that he has to plant an idea into the mind of a rival. He is supposed to do it in perfectly in such a manner that the target will not have any clue that it has happened and will also think that it was his own idea. The task that he has been given has never been attempted prior to this time since he considers that “our minds are as alert to foreign ideas as our immune system is to pathogens” which makes it a task that is difficult and almost impossible. The wealthy man that has hired Cobb for the job makes him an offer that is difficult to turn down. This offer by Saito, who is the wealthy man, is so good that it would enable Cobb to return to his home and family since he was on forced exile. Cobb brings a team together and in this part, the movie depends on the procedures that are well established in all the movies that involve heists. The accomplices that he chooses to work together with are introduced in different scenes to the viewers. Arthur, who is played by Joseph Gordon-Levitt, has been Cobb’s associate for a long time; Earnes, played by Tom Hardy is an extremely good at deception; Yusuf, played by Dileep Rao is a reputable chemist. They hire Ariadne, played by Ellen Page to join them as new associate of the initial team. Ariadne is a bright young architect and is also a genius as far as creating and generating spaces is concerned. Cob also decides to go to touch base with Miles, played by Michael Caine who is the father of his deceased wife. Miles has the knowledge of the things that Cobb does and also the manner in which he does them. The appearance of Michael Caine serves to develop a notion in the any viewer on the screen that he is wiser that the other characters in the film. Cobb goes on to explain to the newly recruited architect why he needs to have an architect in the plan that he want to execute that involves creating spaces in dreams. He goes on to explain that dreams possess an irregular structural design, and the positions and places where we seem to be has a way of changing. The main task that Cobb is mandated to complete is the inception of an idea into the mind of Robert Fischer Junior, played by Cillian Murphy, who is the billionaire that is being targeted. Robert Fischer is an heir to a great empire that was left behind by his father and Saito instructs Cobb to instigate ideas in his mind that will make him consider surrendering of the corporation that belongs to his rival. Cobb instructs Ariadne to come up with a maze that has spaces and is also deceptive inside Fischer’s dreams so that they can be able to plant new ideas and thought without him noticing anything. It is important to remember that the character of the architect that is tasked with creating the maze with spaces is named after the woman in the Greek methodology who assisted Theseus to flee from the maze associated with Minotaur. Cobb takes Ariadne through the paces and makes her familiar with infiltration of dreams, dream control and also the way that the dreams can be navigated. This is control and navigation of dreams where is where most of the special effects that the movie has come out especially the one that takes place in Paris where the city actually rolls back to itself like a roll. There are a number of guards that are assigned to protect Fischer who can be equated to antibodies as far as the mind is concerned. They seem to be particularly real and symbolic and they are a part of the many shootouts that take place in the film which include scenes that have explosions and others characterized by chases. It can be concluded that these scenes are supposed to symbolize the conflicts that are all over in the recent times. The chases are developed and choreographed in such a way that makes the viewer easily engaged and become a part of them. They make the viewer develop a connection with the person or people that are being chased as well as those that are in the pursuit. The architect that is recruited by Cobb has developed a strategy that allows her to defy or disregard gravity in that the buildings can be able to incline, the streets can warp while the characters are able to float in the air. The narrative of the film makes it to be a confusing maze that is not direct and therefore invokes different interpretations from different people. Emotional threads are developed and this can be seen in the reasons that compel Cobb to take the risky task that involve planting ideas in the young billionaires mind. This was because he felt guilty and was still grieving for his deceased wife Mai, played by Marion Cotillard and the two children that they had together. The scenes that involve Mal are difficult to distinguish whether they are a part of the memories that Cobb has or whether he is indeed dreaming. Cobb is not in a position to keep the memories that he has of Mal contained. She is perceived as an emotional attraction and the love that they had existed between the two characters has the effect of making available an emotional invariable in Cobb’s world which is characterized by shifts throughout the film. Throughout the film it is difficult to really tell whether we are in reality or in dreams even though there are issues that are related to life, death and emotion that are a part of the film. According to the film, dying when in deep sleep is a bad thing since it can result in being stuck in a mental confusion that will last a long time that may only end when the body actually dies in reality. In all the ways the mission that was being undertaken by Cobb and the crew that he had assembled appears to be successful but as he goes back to his home and hugs his children, the final scene of the film shows the metal top spinning continuously suggesting that Cobb might have failed to return to reality successfully. But the moment before the film cuts to black, there is a wobble that can be seen and this denotes that indeed this is not a dream.
