Superiority of films after adaptation from literature Introduction There is a high relationship between the literature and the films. From observations, most of the films are taken from one particular literature or the other. They are either adapted from shoprt stories, novels or poems that provide an inspiration for production. As such, the two intergrate perfectly since while the literature can only create an imagination for the reader to understand what is being said, the films make it possible to make the images easy to interprete by the viewer. In this case, the production of literature works into films most of the times makes the films more superior as the have a stronger message than the literature despite the fact that they could have been created by the same person (Adaptation: from novel to film). Conversion of the Captain America Comic # 1 literature into the Captain America: The first advenger film The captain America Comic #1 literature, which was authored by Joe Simon and Jack Kirby and published on March 1 1941 was produced and converted into the film Captain America: The first advenger by Joe Johnston and Kevin Feige on July 19, 2011. Adaptation of literature into film involves the production of a film or a motion picture presentation of a literary work that was initially found in writing. Most of the time, this step is taken to make the message in the literary work more understandable and to present it in a more attractive manner. This is evidenced in the conversion of the literature above into film. During this production, a number of components and characters are changed to suit the theme of the story. The authors of the literature are Joe Simon who was a comic book writer, artist, editor, cartoonist and publisher in America who created and recreated a number of characters and Jack Kirby who was also a book writer, artist and editor in America renowned for his innovations and high level of creativity. The literature is focused on the idea of joining the army by young American soldiers. The authors discuss the aspects of how a hero can be welcomed home after a long period in the war. In this sense, they present Captain America as a hero and provide him with all the necessary triumph as he is shown to be clad in the American flag and decking Hitler (Simon & Kirby 46). The image that is presented is meant to portray him as an American patriot. The directors and the producers of the film who are Joe Johnston and Kevin Feige are an American filmmaker who is known for making effect-driven movies and an American film producer who is also the president of Marvel productions respectively. According to the directors, the main aim for the adaptation of the literature into film was to set the scenery of the Second World War into the modern day world. Their main intention was to have the opportunity with Captain America as a man who was out of time to come back and look at the world with the eyes who had the notion that the world was the smallest town in the United States. In the adaptation, the film mainly talks about the life and escapades of Steve Rodgers who is a sickly man from Brooklyn. As the main character, he is changed into the super soldier who is also known as Captain America in order to aid the efforts of the war. The main duties that are assigned to him are to stop the Red skull, which represents the ruthless head of weaponry that is used by Adolf Hitler (Simon & Kirby 76). It is also used by the leader of an organization that has the aim of making use of an artifact called the Tesseract as a source of energy to dominate the world (Captain America: the first Avenger Scene 3). In this sense, there are a number of differences that are presented in both the literature and the film. Some of them are based on the historical nature of the socio-cultural contexts. It is brought about by the differences in the periods within which both of the productions were made. For instance in captain American comics #1, the setting reflects that of the mood of triumph that was felt after the American soldiers returned home following the second world war period. It is thus meant to portray the feeling of patriotism, victory and triumph. In this sense, it mainly discusses the importance of how individuals can stand up for their countries. This is shown in the way that the soldiers who arrive back home are celebrated and given a reception that befits a hero. In contrast to this socio cultural setting, in Captain America: the first Avenger, the scene is set in the modern world. However, Captain America who lived in the ancient world is involved in order to make an analysis of the changes that have taken place in over 60 years (Captain America: the first Avenger Scene 2). Nonetheless, there are also those similarities that were adapted directly from the literature. One of those that is truly presented in the literature as it is in the film is the aspect that the main character in the literature, who is Captain America is presented as a super hero. As such, it is also set predominantly on the Second World War period. In addition, there were the abandoned projects that were used by the NAZIs as well as other vehicles that were used as an inspiration (Clark par. 1-8). On the other hand, some of the differences that are presented include the use of technology that was not present in the 1940s. It was thought that some advancement such as the use of the Cube technology in Hydra’s case could make the film more modern. As a result, the film, owing to the time of its production has been produced in a more superior way than the literature. This is because of the inclusion of the modern technology and hence the integration between the historical period of the Second World War and the advancements made in the current modern world. The character Captain America was also updated for the film to perform a number of tasks that were not present in the literature. The roles of the Red skull are also changed from being used by Hitler to being the head of the terrorist gang in the film (Truitt par. 1-5). This is mainly because of the change of audience and hence the need to remain relevant to the audience. Therefore, it was important to change some of the meanings as well as the setup. Conclusion Literary works at times posses that deep message that make it necessary to force an interpretation and create a better imagination on what is being said. However, in order to make the message more understandable, they can at times be adapted into films that make interpretation easier. However, depending on the time of the adaptation the films can subsequently be more superior to the literature in terms of the settings as well as the contents hence appearing to be better.
