Colour Analysis of two Sets of Painting by Paul Klee al Affiliation) Introduction Different artists usually employ the use of color in their art work in order to express their messages to different clients. However, it is apparent that the manner by, which the colour is applied usually, varies from one artist to another. Different modes of colour application may also be exhibited in various forms of painting as an intention of conveying specific unique set of information. One famous artist that has displayed a great sense of variation in the manner by, which he expresses his message through painting is Paul Klee. He has painted different forms of art and has exhibited varying dimensions of information. This discussion will focus on two of his paintings; the Young Lady’s Adventure 1922 and the Comedy of 1921. Analysis of the Young Lady’s Adventure of 1922 To begin with, this painting was done on a frame and various colours were used to express the painter’s information. Klee applied the use of water colour on paper in order to express his message as well as create a contrast in relation to his other art works. In relation to the spatial effect of the painting, it is apparent that Paul was interest in displaying this stupendous piece of art work on a frame of specific dimension indicated by the measurement of the frame which is 686 x 510 x 20, with a base dimension of 625mm x 480mm. Moreover, the colours of the painting are properly spread on the painting and viewers can properly have clear vision of the various images and colours used in the painting. Another issue ascribed to spatial effect as evident in the painting emanates from the fact that the painting covers almost the entire frame, an indication of proper use of space as well as proper spread of colours. There is also the essence of colour harmony, the various colours used in this painting do not appear to conflict in any way. One can have a proper and effective analysis of the various objects indicated in the painting. However, the analysis may vary from one viewer to another owing to the fact that many people usually have varying ways of paintings and objects. There are two major conspicuous colours used in this painting; to begin with, there is the use of red colour and grey colour. In addition, it is evident that there is a picture of a lady who is probably surrounded by some birds and some flying images, which can be interpreted as spirits. On the other hand, there is a red colour at the bottom of the painting indicating direction. It is quite challenging to have a conclusive idea of the information expressed by other red colours in the painting. Colour Analysis of the Comedy 1921 This is another great piece of art work painted by Paul Glee in 1921; it is quite obvious that the information expressed in this painting. In relation to the spatial analysis of the painting, the images appear to occupy the central part of the frame which measures 305mm by 454mm. There is also two major colours that are conspicuous in the painting; white and grey. Moreover, there seem to be only one painting of a man surrounded by what appears to be animals. Additionally, there is no conflict of colours, they properly match the intentions of the artist and expresses a scenario that attempts to depict a man on a theatrical stage. That is, there is proper use of colours hence indicating a proper colour harmony. In relation to the intention of the painter of the information expressed by the painter, there seem to a series of comic actions occurring in the scenario expressed; to begin with, the man in the painting is surrounded by what appears to be birds, dressed in skirts. Moreover, the man is the painting does not have arms. Comparison of the Two Paintings In as much as there is some aspects of differences exhibited by the two paintings; there seem to certain similarities expressed by the two paintings. To begin with, both the paintings are drawn on frames with specific measurements of the frames. Moreover, the Young Lady’s Adventure of 1922 entails the use of specific colour attributes; there is proper colour harmony hence expressing the information intended by the artist. In addition, there is a specific spatial expression of the painting on this piece of art work. A similar scenario is evident in the Comedy of 1921. One may also argue that grey coluor and white colour are more expressed in both of the paintings. However, a little red colour is used in the Young Lady’s Painting of 1922. On other hand, both the paintings express a series of objects indicated in the paintings for instance: The Comedy of 1921, depicts a painting of what appears to be an armless man surrounded by birds dressed in skirts, this is quite an interesting scenario. However, the Young Lady’s Painting of 1922, indicates a different scenario, a painting of a lady surrounded by a bird and other flying figures that are not quite clear, but one may conclude they are spirits. There is also some differences exhibited by the colours used in both paintings; the Young Lady of 1922 entails the use of white and grey colours in most parts of the painting. However, there is some red colour used in the painting also exhibited in the painting for instance, the one used to indicated the arrow at the bottom of the painting. The Comedy of 1921, indicates a different scenario, there pure use of grey and white colour. In relation to the information expressed by the two paintings, it is quite evident that the Young Lady of 1922 expresses a scenario of sadness or sorrow, indicated by a picture of a young lady who looks saddened and worried, indicated by the hovering spirits in the painting. On the other hand, the Comedy of 1921 appears to indicate a comic scenario of a man without arms surrounded by birds dressed in skirts. Another apparent difference indicated by the two paintings occurs in the context of their spatial expression. The comedy of 1921 is painted in a manner that it occupies the central part of the frame, which measures 305 by 454 mm while the Young Lady’s painting is properly spread in the entire frame, which measures 625mm by 480mm. Conclusion The two paintings are early versions of painting that received various positive reviews from different critics. They exhibit certain imperative aspects of artistic work; they have been used by different scholars to analyze colour theory in learning institution. However, it is pertinent to not that these two pieces of art work may be analysed differently from one person to another: People usually have different methods of art analysis, specifically paintings.
