Lost Television Series Pilot is the name given to the first episode of the complete Lost television series. In this episode, we come across the oceanic flight 815, which has already crashed. The crashing takes place on an island. Therefore, we find the survivors working with the aftermath. The audiences are incredibly hooked by this episode. It brings many interests among the people watching the television show. In addition, the episode acts as an excellent introduction to an extraordinarily well designed television program. For most of the fans, the Pilot is nothing but a great motion picture appearing on the small screen. The pilot excels in the introduction of characters, addressing the genre of the show, which is mysterious to the audience, and in using exciting storyline and great visual effects in making the viewers amazed (Roberts 41). The Lost writers made no fault in naming the first episode of Lost as the pilot. The naming was not through accident. As illustrated in the show, the naming was not done for the sake of doing it. It was name purposefully. This can be illustrated by the fact that as one goes through the show, he or she will discover that every little information that the writers give to lost fans has a particular meaning connected to the storyline earlier or later on in the Lost’s mysterious plot. In this case, it is wise getting the meaning of name the Pilot. The episode is about the search for the cockpit of the oceanic 815 airliner. The pilot of the airliner is in the cockpit. Therefore, the Lost writers chose the name the Pilot intentionally to create a play on words since the pilot was in the cockpit, which was being searched. This name choice was a subtle hint given to the audience by the writers. In other words, they were revealing to the audience the sign of what to expect. It should be however, noted that nothing has been put straightforward in the Lost show (Douglas 27). The introduction of the main character in the Pilot has been done quite nicely in the first season of the show. Consequently, it is Matthew Fox, Doctor Jack Shephard who has been introduced as the first character in the show’s first scene. A golden lab sprinting through the jungle awakes him. On waking up Jack there is a very exciting overhead shot of his eyes. Among most of the characters found throughout the season, we find many shots. The shots are meant to perhaps bring a reflection of the notion the eyes constitute the windows for accessing the soul. Apart from knowing Doctor Jack Shephard, the characters have the chance of knowing several other characters in the episode. These characters include Boone Carlyle (Ian Somerhalder), Daniel Dae Kim), Korean couple (Yunjin Kim Shannon Rutherford (Maggie Grace) Sayid Jarrah (Naveen Andrews) Sawyer (Josh Holloway), Claire Littleton (Emilie De Ravin), Hurley (Jorge Garcia), Charlie Pace (Dominic Monaghan), Walt (Malcolm David Kelley), Michael Dawson (Harold Perrineau), and Kate Austin (Evangeline Lilly). All the listed characters are found on the island. Besides, they are also seen during the plane flashbacks before the crash takes place. Consequently, the flashbacks in the Pilot come to give a sign of the things coming. They demonstrate the way the rest of the season is going to look like. Generally, a big part of the Lost show is made up of the flashbacks. The flashbacks help significantly in developing the characters since it is evident that flashbacks have dominated the entire season one in examining the pasts of the different characters (Burns 18). In addition to flashbacks, the great character development seen in the show cannot stop the Lost fans from getting attached to each of the different characters. In the first episode of the Lost series, the audience are revealed on the way acting is going to be good. The actors in the episode are all incredible. In fact, this is constitutes the main reason why the Lost series is simply topping all the other television shows. It is hard to tell that the actresses and the actors are acting since they are amazingly great. Honestly, you cannot even tell that the actors and actresses are acting. They are indeed that great. No one can easily name one washout actress or actor in the episode (Roberts 41). The mystery genre of the show is also shown in the Pilot episode. In the start of the episode, the plane crash survivors try to pick up from the post-traumatic shock, while waiting for the rescue boat to come. As the day turns to night, the forty-eight survivors are amazed to hear the trees in the jungle being knocked down. They hear some kind of unique mechanical sounds going along with the knock down. Therefore, this brings a vivid realization to the audience that this island is not an ordinary one. In Part 1 and part 2 of the Pilot, two treks occur through the jungle. In both the two treks terrifying and new conflicts reveals to themselves to the audience and characters. The first trek is that whose mission is finding the pilot. Sayid on the other hand, is leading the second trek in his attempt of sending out a radio signal by use of the transceiver of the plane. In the Pilot, the introduction of new mysteries keeps the audience guessing. Because of this they are kept wanting to remain watching the Lost (Tucker 32). The Pilot is an amazing first episode to the Lost show due to the excitement arising from the incredible visual effects. There is the clearing of the people from wreckage in the part 1 of the episode. As the clearance continues, we see part of the plane breaking off at one point and falling on top of the plane’s turbine. This almost leads to the crushing of two people. As this happens, the audiences are left wondering whether the episode is really a television show or is essentially a movie. Besides, the turbine explodes when it is hit. The excitement created in the show goes beyond the impressive visual effects. Consequently, a polar bear at one point appears running towards a couple of the episode’s main characters. The audiences are left astonished. However, ideally, the computer graphics were used in creating the polar bear. It really looked amazing for the 2004 technology. The visual effects constitute a great narrative hook making the Pilot episode the complete full package (Roberts 41). The story has everything in it that makes it interesting. The acting has been done in an exceptional manner. In addition, the visual effects are applied appropriately. In this very impressive television series show, nothing is actually missing in the first episode. What has been introduced perfectly in the Pilot is the genre of mystery. The question that will remain being asked in this show is that of, “Where are these people?" it is in fact true that the viewers asked the question several times as they got introduced to Lost in the great first episode, The Pilot (Tucker 32). Doctor Jack Shephard is one of the main characters. He is playing a key role on the island of ensuring the survival of his colleagues who survived in the immediate upshot of the crash. He instructs others to assist those having injuries. With his medical background, he is helping the wounded. Through this, the survivors look to him as their leader. He is however, hesitant to clinch the position. Often, he will be heard repeating his father’s grounds that he has not what it takes. Tired from taking care of the wounded victims, Jack tries rescuing drowning survivors. He is sleep-deprived in the process and he starts chasing the illusions of his father in the forest. In the course of his medical tending, coupled with his visibility in the camp, Jack quickly forms several personal relationships with the fellow colleagues. A potential romantic interest developed between him and Kate Austen. Hurley (Jorge Garcia), became his right hand man, as he mutually respected Sayid, a former military torturer (Burns 18).
