I developed a new artistic skill at each stage of my growth, which made me extremely dedicated art. I started taking art classes at the age of five at the Art 4 Studio in Glendale, California, where I learned about watercolor, oil paints and sketching. I proceeded to take a 1-2 drawing and painting course in 9th grade and a 3-4 course in 10th grade during High school. In sophomore year, I volunteered at the YMCA, where I succeeded in my project with flying colors. The project involved painting two murals for a children’s play room and their teachers’ staff lounge.
For the play room, we made a Noah’s Ark- themed mural, while that at the teachers’ lounge portrayed the institution’s mission statement. Everyone commented positively on the project, which I led, and the children were especially happy for the murals. I am president of my high school art club, for both the junior and senior years, where we volunteered for plastic waste collection to construct a Christmas tree. The club consists of art loving students and hardworking students. We meet every day and engage in numerous creative activities, such as face painting, window painting for classrooms and local homes and arts advocacy.
We also enjoy open studio nights in our town, where we get to hone our artistic skills. We also take trips to art museums in California, such as The Getts Museum. At my school, I have learned about the various artists and artist styles, developed new art skills, explored some creative art materials, learned about artists of distinction and got to design some original characters. I have also participated in many art contests, in which I won some medals and certificates. These include: 1. Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition, May 2013. 2. Certificate of Recognition by Glendale PTA Reflections Program 2012-2013 Awards 3.
Certificate of Excellence in the Arts by Glendale High School - Visual Arts First Place 2013 4. Certificate of Recognition by First District PTA Reflections Program 2013 Awards 5. Certificate of Recognition from contest “Spring Metamorphosis” Moscow, Russia 2012 6. In high school I usually participate in a various art projects, creating posters for different projects in different classes, I am very pleased with what I am doing in Art. Question #2 Describe briefly the path that has led to your choice of major.
Answer #2 I have always had a spark for storytelling and character creation. I am highly influenced to express personal and other people’s emotions through art. I have always been mesmerized by the process of creating animation motion pictures. My inspiration does not come from the mere end product of an artwork, but the process it involved in creating it. This includes the fun and intimacy that one experiences as his/her hands anxiously work through the details aspiring to create perfection.
It has always been my dream to enter the Illustration Program at Pasadena Art Center, as this would bring me a step closer to creating the magic of animation, comics, books and movies. I desire to learn how to become a good communicator and interpreter, in addition to the physical craft of developing a narrative artwork. I created an illustration character for my high school project. The character was an evil witch who turned into a cat to avoid detection. In this project, I illustrated her evil personality and charms, plus I also showed her transformation to a cat.
