2. Film Noirs Japanese Cinematography. Seven Samurai or Shichinin no samurai is a film noir that was first created by the Japanese film industry in 1954, and remade by the American film noir in 1960 (Bowman, 2007, p. 68). The film tries to portray Japan’s history in the year 1587, wherein there were seven masterless samurai to contend with a group of Bandits. Notably, the protagonists utilize knives for defense even if there were others who used guns in the antagonistic side (“Seven Samurai,” n.d.).

The Hollywood. The Magnificent Seven is a remake film noir produced by the United States of America. The former was produced in 1960 in the American locus, which was notably a remake of Japanese cinematography: Seven Samurai (Bowman, 2007, p. 68). This is a story of a small village in Mexico, where in Bandits came along and ruined everything in their lives. The people living in the community chose to hire seven American gunmen to protect them against the Bandits. Notably, both the protagonists and antagonists utilize guns for defense (“The Magnificent Seven,” n.d.). 3. Commonalities Seven Samurai and The Magnificent Seven are both film noirs that depict the heroic deeds of seven distinctive types of persons.

They are all strangers from the locus but because of their dedication to help the people living in the village, they had extended their help to them. Both of the films did able to portray comradeship among the protagonists. The romance and love are also present in both film noirs. The village seemed to be perceived as weak because of the perception of the one acting as a leader in the village. The community leader acts like he does not want to end up fighting against the cluster of Bandits at the expense of his people.

He knows death will clamor right after every fight. Loyalty to the group is also depicted. The issue of honesty has been shown as a significant factor in the films--that because of credence, the group had succeeded to protect the village. Most significantly, the prowess and bravery of the protagonists of both films are paralleled to their excellence of knife and gun skills. 4. Differences Seven Samurai is far more different from The Magnificent Seven. The former shows more hasty fight scenes than the latter.

It may be because of defense aspects; Seven Samurai uses knives while The Magnificent Seven uses guns. The former had poor cinematography because of inconsistent setting and angle of the camera. The production of the latter, however, depicts a more succinct analysis of camera angle so as to fully emphasize the background and body figure of the artists. Unlike the Seven Samurai, The Magnificent Seven shows a well-thought cinematography than the latter. For instance, the costumes in the Japanese version are dirty and indigenous while the American remake shows a formal but notably, middle class views.

Knives are used as a defense for the former, and guns, for the latter. The costumes in the American remake depict more of a cowboy figure. When it comes to consistency and spotless version of the cinematography, The Magnificent Seven has gotten it all. However, when it comes to being bold, with harsh killers, Seven Samurai wins. 5. Conclusion Every industry has its own definition of cinematography, depending on its culture and trends, and most significantly, on the perception of the audience and the public.

For instance, the
