Segment Analysis of an Action Film Segment Analysis of “The Dark Knight Rises” The Dark Knight Rises is the third film of the Batman series directed by Christopher Nolan featuring the Dc comic character Batman. The trilogy revolves around a city named Gotham, from which the crime had been eradicated with help of the police department and Batman the super hero of the city. The chief of the police Gordon is a man of conscience and determined to fight against the crime and is willing to take lessons from its past mistakes. The character of Batman was in shadows and did not appear till the rate of crimes in the city again starting to swell. The Cat woman tries to get rid of her criminal career with the help of mercenary named Bane, who asks her to hand over Batman in return. Wayne Enterprises had been into loses since Bruce had withdrawn the fusion reactor for it could be used for weaponisation. Batman was captured by Bane with the help of Kyle the Cat woman and was imprisoned. While Bane take the whole city under siege by converting the fusion from reactor into an atomic bomb, and let his gang member to loot the city. Batman after months of training successfully escaped from the jail and asked Klye Fox (the man who runs Wayne Enterprises), Blake (an able young detective), Gordon and Lady Tate (member of Wayne Enterprises executive board) for their help in order to take the bomb back from Bane. Police force start to take over the city from Bane’s gang, while Batman tried to neutralize the weapon, it is here when Tate stabs him with a knife her true identity Talia al-Ghul, Ra’s al-Ghul’s child who was helped to escape from the prison in order to complete her father’s mission to destroy the Gotham city. While Tate was looking for the bomb, Bane was killed by Kyle. Batman rushed to get the bomb out of the hands of Tate, who before dying destroys the reactor so Batman could not stabilize the bomb by placing it again in the reactor. Batman took the bomb to bay where it detonates, in the end the city mourned over the tragic death of its superhero, but Fox finds that Bruce had fixed the auto pilot and Gordon too finds the bat signal, later Alfred (fatherly figure for Batman), finds Batman with Kyle in Florence. The young Officer Blake resigns from the police force and take control of the Bat-cave (Anthony, 2012). Segmentation Analysis: 1) Rate of crime in Gotham City: Since the last eight years the rate of crime had been controlled by the police chief and eradicated various elements of crime nurtured by the old chief. James Gordon a good and hones officers feels himself responsible for covering up the crimes of the old chief this segment of the movie takes place as: Uzbek military militia moving toward the airfield with Dr. Pavel a nuclear scientist in a van carrying three hooded prisoners, some special ops commandos and a CIA agent were bought by the scientist. The CIA agent killed two of the prisoners while interrogating for Bane, the mercenary and when he comes to the third prisoner it was revealed that it is Bane, a C-130 emerges and his militia man takes over the commuter jet and killed everyone except for the doctor and detonates the plane. 2) Hervey Dent’s Farewell: Goth city police department gathers to mourn over the death of their ex police chief, while Gordon plans to reveal the crimes of the last chief for which batman was held accountable, but did not as his deputy praises his effort to reduce the crime, the mayor of the city plans to remove him in the spring. The event was hosted by Bruce (Batman) who was not there and Lady Tate wants to meet him for the reasons unknown to John Daggett (a businessman). 3) Revelation of true identity of Salina Kyle: Salina Kyle the cat woman disguised as a maid in the Wayne Manor, successfully open the uncrackable safe of Bruce and took out his mother’s necklace and out of curiosity start looking at Bruce’s pictures. At the same time Bruce arrives and tries to get her but she ran away by taking a lift in the congressman’s car. Alfred comes to the room and learns about the intruder, Bruce notices that Salina had taken a copy of finger prints. 4) Emergence of John Blake: On the same night the police chief had been informed of the disappearance of the congressman by a newly recruited officer, John Blake who tell the chief that he suspects the death of Harvey Dent the last police chief and suspects that Batman had again been sighted and he knows bout the real Batman, the chief ordered him to leave. 5) Bruce Detecting the Thief: Next morning Alfred finds that Bruce is looking for the traces of the burglar, and finds out that she had been using the fingerprints of a male suspect and able to get the address of the thief by using the pearl tracking device. Alfred advised him to go out with this Cat woman and wished him to live a happy life in Florence. 6) Dead body in the Sewerage: Blake and his partner Tyler Ross were at the sewerage, where a boy from the local orphanage had been killed. Blake used to coach baseball there at the orphanage from time to time and had a special relationship with the warden of the orphanage, later the audience came to know that Blake too was raised there; one of the orphan kid discovers that sewers are considered to be a good place of employment, which shock Blake. 7) Exchange of Fingerprints and Discovery of the Abducted Congressman: After a few days Salina appeared in a dimly lit bar whit a drunken friend, and reaches to a table where Bane’s associate Stryver, was sitting handed over the finger prints and asked for the compensation, Stryver order his men to close the door and put a pistol on Salina’s head, she realized that they were asking for the thumb prints, which she restraining handed over a mobile to Stryver and told him to press the send button to get the impression of the thumbprints. She left the room saying that the police were looking for her drunken friend, told Stryver while leaving that they had to hide the congressmen somewhere else as he just had used hi mobile and police would track this place down, who did not take the advice seriously. While she was about to leave the bar polices along with SWAT teams raided the bar, simultaneously Bane also appeared along with his gang, and there was a intense cross fire, Salina had to fight Stryver to find her way out, as she leaves Blake came to the SWAT team. After a while more cavalry was available along with the chief. 8) Capture and Escape of Gordon: During the cross fire some gangsters ran into the sewers, Gordon along with three SWATs were chasing them, when they were caught in a cross fire with Bane, who set off bomb which killed the three SWATs and able to capture Gordon. Gordon while moving deep into the sewerage was caught by Bane’s men. Meanwhile Blake was trying to convince the officer in charge that he had to send some men in sewerage as Gordon was still there, who did not believed him and rejected out rightly. Two of Bane’s gang men took Gordon with them to bane’s place near to the waterway, who killed one of them on the account that due to there weakness three of his men died. And ordered the other one to frisk Gordon, who found his badge, wallet, pistol and speech Gordon wrote disclose the reality of Harvey dent’s crimes. While bane was reading the Gordon jumped into the waterway, Bane’s men tried to kill him but he got away and rescued by Blake. 9) Blake meets Bruce: Next day Blake arrives at Wayne Mansion to meet Bruce and tell him that Gordon is hospitalized. Blake reveals that he knew Bruce was the Batman and urges him to return as no one would agree with Gordon that an underground army exists in the city (Tookey, 2012). 10) Bruce’s Visit to the Hospital: While Blake was leaving Bruce asked Alfred about Bane’s identity and tells him to get an appointment from the hospital where Gordon is admitted. Orthopedist at the hospital tells Bruce his cartilage is still weak and he can’t go skiing. As the doctor leaves the room Bruce sneaks into Gordon’s room and here he decided to return to fight the crime in the city. 11) Bruce’s Tracking Salina: Bruce tracked Salina’s house and reached there where he saw she was leaving the house wearing his mother’s necklace and follows her. He reached a party thrown by Miranda Tate, who met him while he saw Salina dancing with a man. They discussed about Wayne Enterprise, while Bruce sets him in the line to dance with Salina. She got nerves to see as her dancing partner and revealed the truth that she did this get her criminal record clean. Bruce praised her by saying that necklace suits her, but she does not deserve it and took it off. Salina in anger kissed her and picked his pocket and took his car. 12) Bruce’s meeting with Fox: Bruce went to see Fox and asked about the research and development, who in return tells him that a new aircraft by the name of “the bat” is in process and satisfies Bruce that Daggett could not get the majority of the shares (Tookey, 2012). 13) Attack on Gotham Stock Exchange: Bane along with is gang attacked the stock exchange in order to transfer Wayne Enterprises stake to Daggett using Bruce’s finger prints, while the police put the exchange under siege. Bane’s uses the hostages as human shield to get of the building while police was cashing them, Batman emerges during this chase and able to capture the person operating the transfer, but by the time he reaches it was completely transferred and Wayne Enterprise was bankrupt. 14) Salina Attack Daggett: Salina attacked Daggett after not finding the Clean Slate Software program in his safe, Stryver came to his rescue whom Salina neutralized and interrogates Daggett, who confess that he lied about the software. She found herself surrounded with Ban’s men; suddenly Batman appears and took her out of there (Ryan, 2012). 15) Miranda Tate new CEO of Wayne Enterprises: Bruce along with Fox to protect the enterprise made Tate the new CEO and made her know about the nuclear reactor. Daggett became furious upon receiving such news and summed Bane. Accused Bane of not working properly as the argument heated, Bane broke Doggett’s neck (Collin, 2012). 16) Salina Tricked Batman: While came to meet Salina, who agrees to take him to Bane as he gives her Clean Slate program. She take him Bane, where Bruce relies the he had been tricked as Bane know everything about him. Both of them fight intensely, Bane attacked Bruce’s knee and broke his backbone and his men took him from there (Ryan, 2012). 17) Blake Arrested Salina: Next morning when Salina was trying to flee the city, Blake got and interrogated her. She confessed that she tricked Batman but does not know whether he is alive or not. Blake arrested her and moved her into prison. 18) Bruce in Prison: Bruce wakes up with a heavy head finding him in prison, while Bane taunting and telling him that he will destroy Gotham. He saw prisoners trying unsuccessful attempts to flee out of the jail, when one the prisoners told Bruce that no one except a girl managed to escape the jail (Chait, 2012). 19) Police raid the Sewers: One morning the board of directors of Wayne enterprises found themselves hostage by Bane, when police learns of it they planned to attack the sewers and get rid of Bane which Bane had already put on explosives (Bradshaw, 2012). 20) Bane took Gotham under Siege: While the police raided Bain successfully had his hand over the reactor, using which Dr. Pavel made a nuclear bomb. Blake while was looking for evidences at Daggett’s site, he found that sewers and the related area had been rigged with explosives and warned Foley to back out. A match was about to start in the Gotham stadium, when large explosion were heard in the sewers and the tunnel made by Bane. Destroyed virtually the entire infrastructure of the city and trapped the policemen in the tunnels. Prisoners from the city jail were released by Bane and he repelled an army attack on him (Ryan, 2012). 21) Bruce Escaped from Prison and Defended Gotham: While Bruce managed to escape from the prison and returned to Gotham for help as batman, he freed the trapped policeman and contested bane whom he killed. Batman came to knw about th reality of Tate as she flees with the atom bomb to complete the vow she made to her father to destroy Gotham, Bruce fights her and took the bomb from her which exploded just when he was going to drop in the bay (Hughes, 2012). 22) Death of the Batman: Whole city mourns over the death of the Batman and Alfred left the city for Florence where he saw Bruce and Salina.
