Thailand’s tourism industry is considered one of the biggest of its kind as it receives nearly 11 million tourists from around the world. The local household runs their daily expenses on the basis of revenues generated by the tourism activities, especially in the area of Phuket, which was worst, affected by the 2004 Tsunami. It is anticipated that the overall turnover of Thailand’s tourism industry is around $ 21 million each year from the tourism activities only, whereas traveling and shopping expenditures made by the tourists in the country account for another $ 35 million (Birkman, et al., 2006).When the great Tsunami made its impact on the shores of Thailand, the tourists and the local people got trapped in a hostile situation.

It is estimated that the infrastructure of Tsunami affected areas was completely wiped out including hotels, airports, and roads. Over 5000 people died along with 8000 others who were injured. The number of tourists visiting Thailand also reduced from 800,000 in 2004 to 90,000 in 2005. Because of the devastating Tsunami, 67% of the household in Thailand who adopted the tour operator profession reported a 67% reduction in the demand for their services by the end of 2006 (Nidhiprabha, 2007).In order to achieve the objectives and goals of the current research paper, the author will use a qualitative assessment technique in order to formulate the discussion and the resultant recommendations to avoid the greater impact of natural disasters in the future.
