The following are the most commonly faced issues by Indigenous tourism in Victoria (Victoria's Aboriginal Tourism Development Plan 2006-2009, 2006):

• The market size for indigenous tourism is not very well defined which creates problems in analyzing the tourists’ interests.
• New businesses are not supported by the public or the private sectors which makes it difficult to fully cater to the needs of the customers.
• The government provides very little financial support which leads to a lack of funds for further development.
• Public or private units operating in the aboriginal sector are not having good exposure.
• The information about tourism is not spread on a large scale which makes it difficult for the tourist to search for it.

In Australian regions with little if any tourism product, how may Indigenous tourism be a means of developing the tourism economy?

The biggest and strongest indigenous tourism product that Australia has are its aboriginal art and craft. This might prove to be a successful means of developing the tourism economy of the country in a way that their art and craft heritage is completely different from the rest of the world. It has the reflections of their myths and legends which adds a substantial amount of great experiences to the tourist’s record. It can prove to be a good marketing strategy for the tourism economy as aboriginal arts and crafts are the competitive advantage of Australia. In addition to this indigenous tourism is expanding and developing rapidly throughout the world and the interest shown by the tourist suggests that it will be the major source of developing the tourism economy in the future. Indigenous tourism does not only give tourists the pleasure of traveling rather it is a whole learning experience that is greatly encouraged in recent times (Australian Indigenous cultural heritage, 2012).

Compare and contrast your experiences of our visit to the two Aboriginal tourism sites during our recent Field Trip. What recommendations would you offer to improve the visitor experience at these sites?

Recently we had an exciting field trip to the Lal Falls in addition to Aboriginal tourism sites including the Aboriginal rock art site at Langi Ghiran, Buangor, and Kirrit Bareet Aboriginal center. The first Aboriginal site was a rock art site at Langi Ghiran located in Victoria. It was the most artistic place present on the earth with so many aboriginal arts and crafts. The cultural heritage was preserved by pigmentation, superimposition, chronology, and many other latest techniques were also used (Gunn, 1983). The site has great archeological importance and therefore it requires further maintenance and proper guidance for first-time visitors so that they might have a complete understanding of the site. Our next aboriginal destination was Kirrit Bareet Aboriginal center which contained substantial artwork by indigenous Australians. Some of the displayed items were open to touch and feel, in this regard the Possum skin cloak was awesome (Kirrit Barreet Aboriginal Art and Cultural Centre, 2010). I loved the experience at Kirrit Barreet Center more as compared to other places because of the unbeatable artistic nature of the area and how well the management has maintained the whole center.

Recommendations:

• Increased protective measures are required to be taken on the part of the management leading students to places such as Lal Falls as the accident which took place on the falls in which 2 students died some 20 years ago was due to lack of preventive measures.
• The rock art site at Langi Ghiran, Buangor has great archeological importance and therefore it requires further maintenance and proper guidance for first-time visitors so that they might have a complete understanding of the site.
