Introduction
The aspect of modern technological advancements has continued to play a significant role especially in regards to how activities are conducted across the different sectors of the economy’s the world over. Both public and private entities have made sure to engage in extensive research and development activities for the purpose of advancing their way of executing tasks and operations in amore easier and efficient manner. Such technological advancements like artificial intelligence and especially that which is found in development of robots is deemed to be gaining ground in relation to its applications. Nowadays, robots are used for the purpose of executing complicated tasks given that they operate on a human-like intelligence system. The focus of this paper is on examining whether or not the adoption of artificial intelligence and especially robotics has resulted to either problems or solutions. In fact, the paper argues that though robots play a significant role in day-to-day lives; it is important that they are supervised to execute tasks in a more ethical manner.
According to Anderson and Leigh (2010, p.54-56) the future of robots in relation to human operations remains to be a very critical aspect of day-to-day of human lives. It is noted that robots continue to make sophisticated decisions just like the ones formulated to ensure that the elderly are taken care of in homes. However; it is argued that these robots should be designed in a way that still ensures there is total adherence to ethical principles. It is suggested that the most effective way of ensuring that robots are able to interact with human beings at almost every level is through the subjecting them to programs that are conversant and adhere to ethical principles. In this manner, they will be fairly position to come up with efficient decisions on a case-by-case basis. While it is important to note that robots are never programmed with human-like emotions; they are still expected to act on efficient decisions that are focused on ethical reasoning, which are basically foreseen by emotions. To ensure that this is achieved, it is posited that the designing of these robots should adopt highly-placed artificial intelligence frameworks for purposes of generating principles needed for purpose of curtailing specific situations related to ethically-acceptable conditions through the utilisation of both intensive and incorporated model of logic. In essence, Anderson and Leigh (2010, p.56) proposes machine learning; which is deemed to be the most effective form of artificial intelligence. The intelligence is set to direct machines into comprehending algorithms that denotes the fact those human beings can only perceive some specific forms of cases to be ethically and morally upright. The artificial intelligence further adopts an inductive logic whereby the overall learning processess of the robot are deemed to be executed at a time where there is efficient software design while ethical principles thereafter incorporated into the robots internal memory.
Consequently, Carroll and Aguilera-Hellweg(2011,p.68) also posits that robots are now being developed and programmed in order to reason and execute tasks just like human beings. Of particular interest to note, Actroid-DER android that was developed in Japan was recently focused on executing tasks related to serving the functions of a spokes model for all possible corporate events. This is a notable example for which robots are developed in order to ease up operations historically only conducted by human beings. In fact, in order to effectively represent its origins; the sample robot was further given more human-like attributes like that of a female personality and even going forward to give it a name. For this case, the notable improvements made for the robot are extensively perceived to be more focused on a paradigm shift from realism to believability given that they now form the new model of artificial intelligence that seeks to allowing the functioning of these robots not necessarily as industrial machines but also as implicit agents that should be able to execute different tasks in different sectors of the economy. Following this line of argument, it can be seen that nowadays robots are being developed for the purpose of ensuring that they are distinctively able to perform functions without necessarily breaking up the rules of engagement. For instance, in comparing to the traditional robots that were certainly programmed for the purpose of executing specific types of actions but were only restricted to certain forms of structured environments, the recently developed HERB has been designed to embrace actions even within unfamiliar objects and therefore, shift around without colliding with human-like attributes that are distinctively in motion. To be precise, the capacity to differentiate between substances and objects by the aforementioned model and traditionally-built robotics seeks to ensure that there is efficient assimilation of necessary information prior to them processing them extensively while still aligning to specific distinguishable human-like attributes.
The notion that relates to furthering the prospect and operability of robots and artificial intelligence is highly revered (Ingrand & Malik, 2014). According to Ingrand & Malik (2014, p.68-77), there has been continual revival of interests in improving robotics within the already laid out platform of well-incorporated machine intelligence especially those that rely on complicated sensory motor capacities as well as those that perfect comprehends extensive ways of artificial robotics intersections. It can be seen that these authors are of the opinion that despite certain challenges in the course of developing robotics; there application still continues to play a significant role in human lives. In essence, it is suggested that intensive research and development should now be focused on formulating autonomous and deliberate actions in robotics through analysis of different challenges and solutions that can come up with these artificial beings. In essence, the aspect related to comprehension of intentional functionality within artificial intelligence is deemed to be of paramount notion especially in regards to activities of planning; acting and perception; as well as supervision and objective thinking. In this regards, artificial intelligence can be seen to playing an important role in ensuring that human beings are able to relate fairly well with these robots taking into the consideration that they are basically positioned well to executes duties in a more effective and efficient manner. The future of artificial intelligence seeks to not only imposing human-like attributes but also making sure to impose personalities to these machines to act in more ethical and morally upright manner.
In concluding the discussion above, it can be noted that IT and specifically artificial intelligence in robotics is set to provide more benefits to day-to-day operations of businesses and individual functions. They are undergoing further improvements in order to provide them with the capacity to act in a more upright manner. Numerous IT companies have embarked on reviving artificial intelligence in order to allow these machines to not only conduct simple tasks but also make efficient decisions that cannot go contrary to human perspectives and expectations. Thus, all in all, artificial intelligence provides important solutions as opposed to problems especially since they help out with the execution of tasks that previously took enormous resources to conduct. However, while ensuring to propel these improvements, there has been enough caution being taken to ensure that these robots act in a more upright and ethical way.
