We will understand the organization of the basic computer system step by step. First of all we can easily understand that for processing data, we should have some facility to input the data, a processor that will operate on the data fed & an output. But further if we think about the speed of operation of various units, it is difficult to achieve synchronization between units in our present system containing only three components. Let’s think more about, what the processor unit should contain, so, that we can store the data till the time it is used without any loss of data in sequence.

Let's consider a distinguished unit for storage, in general, let its’ name be Storage Unit for simplicity. Moreover, to perform some arithmetic & logical operations we need to have a distinguished unit for it, let’s call it the Arithmetic Logic Unit (ALU). Now, it’s very difficult to manage & monitor each & every data coming in & has to be sent for processing in case of operations in which a large amount of data in the sequence is concerned & the order of the data sequence is required to be maintained because it may represent code or sequential program or data packet and if the sequence is disturbed that data that has been processed would be wrong & definitely will result in wrong output.

So, let’s consider a manager who will monitor, control & manage all data operations. But, how do we distinguish input whether it is a data or an instruction or a program (set of instructions)?
