Faculty of imaging, also termed as imagination, is the ability of an individual to form sensation or new images that cannot be perceived through hearing or sight. Imagination has been helpful in the learning process; it helps in problem solving. According to father Nicolas Adolfo, imagination is not something that an individual can escape or avoid. It is a consistent and continuous process that allows one to hold or appreciate the reality that is in place. With social media and communication, imagination affects and hinders serious thinking and reflection. This is because student’s ability to reflect and think critically is influenced with the introduction of social media and communicative technology. According to Richard, technologies have rendered communities lazy and unable to think deeply. Before the advancement of technology, people were creative globally, and with high ability to think deeply and broad. Hence, they came up with ideas that are constructive and of developmental benefit. Previously, Individuals were able to reflect on their actions and improve them, hence coming up with better ideas. There are evidences that reflect how technology has influenced individuals’ thinking capacity; previously, people were able to develop artifacts or products of arts that are still respected and preserved for future generations up to date (Richard 29). Products that are currently manufactured showed that producers never think critically on its use. Because of poor reflection, it has led to some of the manufactured products not to persist in the market. Critical reflection or critical thinking allows individual to apprehends and appreciate whatever they have done. In the current world, people are unable to come up or develop their own ideas but develop on what others developed. For instance, a vehicle was somebody’s idea, since its development, there has been no new ideas about cars, but developments on what was somebody idea. Before advancement of technology, there was a sense of creativity and imagination. For instance, thorough imagination and creativity of Michelangelo enabled him to develop statue showing and interpreting the fight that occurred many years ago, the fight between David and goliath. In the statue, he shows how David was small in size and Goliath being monumental in body size. It is the outcome of serious reflection and imagination to develop pictures showing what occurred many years back. Technology has affected negatively individual thinking ability. Therefore, it is known that technology hinders the ability of an individual to understand, appreciate, and understand their natural environment and surroundings. With imagination, it will enable individual to anvil their natural background and their natural environment. Technology has led to improvement in the transport and communication system globally. Due to this advancement in technology, a vast majority of people end up using these transport and communication system. Before the invention of this technology, people used to walk from one geographical region to another hence, interact with their environment and surrounding. This interaction with the environment led an individual to critically think and reflect on the ways of improving and enhancing the beauty of the environment. Due to technological advancement, majority of people are not concerned with their environment, a fact that has facilitated environmental degradation. Formerly, young population or youth used to think creatively and develop or write romantic letters depending on the situation or prevailing circumstances. Currently, it has been difficult for a youth to creatively think, imagine, and reflect on ways of writing letters. According to Richard, technology has hindered youth from thinking as they are used to doing things through shortcut ways. There is various website that an individual can download romantic letters and send to their friends. Internet has hindered many individuals from following the correct format and grammar when writing since it is used to simplify thing hence, a large number many the world population have become lazy (Richard 37). Previously, before the introduction of technology or advancement of technology, many students and career personnel used to carry out calculation in order to arrive to an answer. With current communication systems and presence of calculators, many students currently cannot think critically and reflect, hence end up using the calculator to find answer or solve mathematical problems. Currently, students cannot think, reflect, and imagine on what they are studying in colleges. The major reason as to why students are not reflecting and critically thinking is the presence of technology. Most of the educational materials studied in schools are all over the internet. Since technology has simplified things, students copy and paste answers directly from internet hence, reducing their ability to reflect on questions. This fact has affected the student’s performance both in class and outside the class, especially during their placement or working environment. Technology has also influenced people’s participation in recreational activity. Technology has rendered high number of the population into indoors activities. Presently, large numbers of people use the internet in their houses for social media including Facebook, and playing computer games. Since they cannot carryout recreation activities, they end up not reflecting on what they watch or think can create fun outdoor. Exercise also enables individuals to compare on their previous experience and a way to improve in the future. Therefore, recreation activity enables individual reflect on their previous experiences and think critically on the best way to perform better. There are diverse ways in which students at the college level can be able to practice serious reflections. Students should practice reflection by not utilizing internet while carrying out their assignments. They should learn to reflect on what they had learned during their class time and apply in their assignments. Assignment being part of the learning process should be given after a lecturer has tackled the topic. This will enable students think and reflect what they have been taught, and handle their tasks well. Use of technological devices such as calculator should be avoided and enable the students to reflect, think critically on tasks, and tackle them effectively. Simulation mode of study should be employed in colleges; these modes of study allow the student to apply what they had acquired during classroom and apply in an environment similar to the actual environment. For example, use of skills lab will enable students reflect on classroom activity. In conclusion, technology has rendered communities incapable to think and reflect rationally. Technology has come up with ways of doing things in shortcut and does not pose a challenge to individuals. Student are the ones affected most, with the presence of internet and communication system, it leads in students utilization of technology more than carrying out tasks on their own. For instances, mathematics are calculated using calculator instead of a student to think critically and reflects on what they were taught in class. Technology also has harbored individual’s creativity as most of the activities are carried through internet. Works Cited Thompson, Gary Richard. The Gothic imagination: essays in dark romanticism,.
