Handling is another positive factor. The small compact car is definitely more maneuverable in the congested downtown areas and the smaller parking spaces. During peak traffic times or when on congested highways, a compact car seems easier to handle. Compact cars have lower visibility due to their low height making it difficult to see with ease for shorter people. They also have a lower record of safety when it comes to collision impacts. Their smaller size makes them more vulnerable to impacts, and they are often highly damaged when involved in an accident.

The compact falters when it comes to interior space and legroom. For a family of four it is just right and for those who are of above-average build, well, after long distances they should be ready for a few cramps. Room for luggage is very less and if you go a long distance, it is either an extra roof carrier or optionally, travel light. In comparison, the SUV is very spacious and easily accommodates six maybe seven comfortably. There is enough legroom and headroom. It still has sufficient luggage space and is ideal for those long trips and vacations when needed to carry specific supplies.

It is a great choice for large families that need plenty of space. All these come at a premium price and the starting price of an SUV may be easily $25,000. Most of the features are available in the basic model itself. The maintenance costs are high due to the size and more parts in the vehicle. They have a higher center of gravity and the driver enjoys better visibility of the driving field due to its better height. Of course, this size also makes it harder to handle and maneuver and renders this an unsuitable car for congested city driving or downtown parking.

Typically, these are called "Gas Guzzlers" and do not offer efficient mileage as the compact does. Running costs are definitely higher than compacts and so are the auto insurance costs.SUVs are safer than compacts because they are able to withstand impacts better due to their bulk. However, their higher center of gravity makes them prone to rollovers. These can be used for towing trailers depending on their capacity that the compact cars absolutely cannot. Each has its own strength and weakness and are chosen based on individual needs and desires.
