Philosophy Paper on Football Introduction Philosophy in football includes the basic principles and guidelines that guide the expected actions of the coaches. This means that each coach must buy them and strictly adhere to these principles. The coach must demonstrate a positive attitude in all ways towards his team, family, managers and funs so as to serve as a foundation for developing his own philosophy. This description will reflect on coaches and their family life, the fundamentals of football to players, planning, scouting for players and priorities attributed to coaches before considering friends as second idea. Dealing with the Family When it comes to family issues, coaches are supposed to be responsible people who will be entrusted with proper leadership of families. They must clearly understand that families are faced with problems. Some of these problems include dealing with sulky teenagers, betrayal and even separation. In this case, the coach must be in a position to juggle between work and family. So, he must seek ways of having time together with his family members. This is due to the fact that managing good family dynamics takes time, practice and patience. To achieve happy family life, there must be a perfect combination of understanding order mutual respect and compromise. It is for this reason that family coaching sessions are designed to provide families with the tools and techniques of bringing families together by resolving conflict and hopefully transform a seemingly hard family situation in to a better and comfortable one. Teaching Player the Fundamentals This involves inculcating the required knowledge to the learner by employing cognitive skills which include proper explanation of the requirements of foot ball game at initial stages. The coach may opt do this formally in a classroom so as to impart theories that form the basic fundamentals of football. Still he will demonstrate the skill gradually making sure that the learner does not lose him or her. The fundamentals revolve around teaching the learner proper tackling skills, passing, blocking, receiving and ball carrying techniques. All these tactics are easily transferable and they can be taught with ease. The next thing involves keeping the learner interested so as to make sure that these tasks are accomplished and effectively done. This is perfected through proper reinforcement methods which involve positive motivation by clearly guiding the learner. It also involves encouraging learners and making corrections when a mistake is made. At this level, demonstration can be done to increase the level of understanding of the learner. The coach does this by practically using the ball and displaying tactics. It does not involve engagement of students but just observation before participation. In this case, it is important also to make sure that the coach keeps the learners alert by attracting their attention. Therefore, learning football fundamentals is essential, but it a can also prove rather dull. So, it’s up to the learner of football and coaches to make the sport fun enough for the kids to want to continue participating. Planning and Conducting Productive Practices Efficient planning and proper organization requires the coach to strategize the situations at hand. In fact a well planned and productive practice is very essential part of a team’s success. It involves determining future course of action before the play. Structured practice at times can become a challenge as some learners have a tendency to naturally have desire for fun. To make this work, the coach should stay on schedule by making sure that he observes time. At this stage, he should demonstrate the skills and the learners should emulate by participating in the game. A basic planning schedule involves using a rough sketch before the actual game is started. This should be made in such a way that it will suit the days set aside for practice. Organization of practice plan begins with meetings that involve investing in time to allow the coach to see how much time is left. So this calls for the need to make a rough draft every day which is given to the learners and coordinators. Coordinators then tell exactly what time they want the practice time to be scheduled. Eventually when the coach that actually believes in the plan, what happens is that he will be eager and prompt to be on time himself. Then he will consistently be able to evaluate his performance by staying on time with his players as a position coach. The plan must assist in the development of the offense, defense, and special teams. Such a plan would really be useful for coaches to really get that special teams practice. Scouting for Players in Football This involves sourcing for players because a scout typically will keep attending as many football matches as possible to be able to evaluate targets first hand. The procedure involves identifying promising young players by typically attending lower class league games. This makes it easier for the coach to compare the playing behavior of each player and know the best among many. By so doing a scouting involves two methods which enable collection of intelligence. The first method is whereby the scout goes to evaluate the talent of the footballers with an intention of signing them a contract for their employers. This type of scouting may be done for the purpose of obtaining local players or international players. The second type of scouting is the tactical scouting which involves assessing the matches of upcoming opponents. This is useful as it enables the scout to know the level of competence and also know the strategies to consider and effectively face competition. Players are later evaluated a procedure that involves determination of the required technical attributes to enhance succeeding at the sport. This information is later highlighted to the club management. The key attributes that scouts tend to look for in players include: Goal keeping styles which entail communication with defence, good reflexes and command of the penalty area. The center backs should have good height, heading abilities, concentration and bravery to attempt challenges. Full backs should have good team responsibilities, stamina and anticipation. Forwards and wingers should equally be finishing ability and good technical dribbling respectively. Therefore, scouting is crucial way of searching for young talents through extreme keenness which offers advantages such as: Ability of clubs or coaches to find players from all parts of the world. Still, players from lower clubs can be readily availed at a cheaper transfer price. Finally, it allows clubs to build up knowledge base about opponents (Joe). A Coach First, a Friend Second Idea This description further clarifies that coaches are busy people operating under tight schedules.Therefore when dealing with them it would be advisable to put some factors into consideration. In fact, coaches do their work effectively by having priorities in place. For instance, there are rules and regulations governing coaches as far as making calls are concerned. This strictly controls when coaches can call their recruits although recruits can initiate contacts and call their coaches. As are result coaches are time conscious and they must utilize their time efficiently. Teaching assignments coupled with ensuring that all the players are actively involved takes priority and consumes all the time (Calvin and Ellison). To this end coaches work as managers by focusing on communication skills through commitment. For this reason investment in problem identification, diagnosis and performance improvement are carried out effectively by proper listening skills. Finally, a good and experience coach must possess traits that reflect on the ability to come up with an effective problem solving strategy. This is done by creation of situations where they are not needed. This implies that successful coaches will not waste much of their time correcting players, but rather they will use special methodologies to solve problems.
