Performance Enhancements In Sports Introduction A sport is a kind of physical activity, which is governed by some specific rules and regulations. In today’s fast-paced world, people usually have very less time for sports entertainment. Some people do not find any time for playing any kind of sports whereas some people are not skilled enough to play their desired sports. For such people, who want to improve their sports skills, there exist many sports training clubs in the United States of America, which are full equipped with all sports related equipments and latest technology that are used to train the individuals. In this report, I will write about the interview of one of the trainers, who has really made his name in the field of physical training. I am talking about Mr. Mark James, who is the trainer at Winfield Cricket Club located in the New York. Mr. James is a professional trainer of cricket in the United States. I met him today through one of my close friends who takes interest in the game of cricket. My interview with Mr. James not only helped me know about the importance of physical fitness in sports but also made me aware of his viewpoint regarding use of substances in sports. Let us have a detailed look at the answers given by Mr. James during the interview. The Interview Question No. 1 How long have you been in your profession? Answer: No: 1 I have been in this profession since 2003. I have seen many difficulties regarding American cricket during these 9 to 10 years but by the grace of God, I have successfully passed through all those difficult times. Question No. 2 What requirements did you have to meet to be in the profession? Answer No. 2 I am basically an athletic trainer certified by the American Athletic Association (AMA). I got the job based on my qualification and experience in the field of physical training. To be a professional sports trainer, one must have a complete understanding of all the issues related to any specific game. The knowledge of issues can be gained after years of practical experience related to the game, which you like. In my view, the importance of experience and qualification go side by side if you want to become a professional trainer. Question No. 3 Are there any licenses or continuing education units that you have to get each year? Answer No. 3 No. Continuing education units are not necessary for holding this job. As I mentioned earlier, you just need to be physical trainer in order to become a professional trainer. In cricket, you need to be fit physically as well as mentally. As far as you are fit and can deliver your knowledge to the youngsters, you are eligible for the job of a professional trainer. But once you are physically down, you are no more eligible for the post. As far as license is concerned, your physical fitness is your license. You do not need any more licenses to be eligible for the post other than your fitness, a degree in the field of physical fitness, and certification from American Athletic Association (AMA). Question No. 4 What do you like most/least about your job? Answer No. 4 Well what I like the most about my job is the nature of my job. I think if a person gets a job which suits his nature and mind set, that person would be more than happier. Same case is with me. Being a physical trainer, I train my young students and that is the loveliest thing for me. When I see that my students are learning something from me, it gives me a real pleasure. But if you ask me what I like the least, I would say that the government’s negligence towards cricket is what I like the least about my job. Pays of the physical trainers of a game depend on the interest which government takes in any specific game. In case of cricket, the pays are relatively low and that is what I like the least about my job. Question No. 5 What degree did you pursue to be in this field? Answer No. 5 I have pursued bachelor’s degree in physical fitness. This education provides students with the knowledge related to exercise theory and all issues related to physical fitness. Question No. 6 What is a typical day in your profession? Answer No. 6 To me, the typical day varies with the level of employment settings, competition, and institutional requirements. Question No. 7 What do you recommend to someone who is trying to get into your field? Answer No. 7 Well, at first I would appreciate his decision to come into this field. Secondly, I would recommend that person to maintain his physical fitness as much as possible because this field requires a person to maintain his mental and physical fitness in order to be successful. I would also recommend him to complete his education first because this job welcomes those people who are at least bachelors or masters in the field of physical fitness. Question No. 8 Where do you see your field in the next 10 years? Answer No. 8 Well, I see this field reach the heights of fame in the next 8 to 10 years. Question No. 9 Are there any career advancements in your profession? What are they? Answer No. 9 Yes, there are career advancements in this field. There are 3 main steps in this field which include fresh trainee, assistant physical trainer, and senior physical trainer. Question No. 10 What experience or exposure do you have to the use of drugs in sports? Answer No. 10 Drugs are widely used in almost all kinds of sports in order to maintain the stamina. We often see the cases of positive dope tests in various sports events. But here I would like to say that in cricket, drug use is very minimal as compared to other sports. In cricket, match fixings happen sometimes but the signs of drug use are very rare in cricket. Question No. 11 What do you see as the single, biggest issue in the use of drugs in sports? Answer No. 11 In my view, the basic issue is the negligence, which is given to the drug use in sports. I do not think that our laws are doing an effective job in eliminating the drug use. Our drug related laws need to be revised as soon as possible. Question No. 12 What is your opinion concerning performance-enhancing substances used during athletic performance? Agree, disagree, and why? Answer No. 12 I am against the use of performance-enhancing substances because they increase the stamina of an athlete unnaturally. Question No. 13 Are there any substances or supplements you support or believe are okay to use? If so, which ones? Answer No. 13 I have already said it. I am totally against the use of every kind of drug in sports because it goes against the real spirit of sports. Ending Sentence Ok sir, thank you very much for your precious time. Response You are always welcome. Conclusion This interview really helped me understand the basic issues related to the field of physical sports fitness. The interview helped me understand what is going on in the field of cricket in America and which issues make professional physical training a considerable field for most of the people. The interview was a very informative one as it increased my personal knowledge related to the field of physical training and fitness. I selected Mr. Mark James because in my view, he is the most experienced and professional physical trainer who has a deep knowledge in all issues related to physical fitness. I believe that Mr. James was an appropriate selection because the interview turned out to be a real source of information for me. References No references applicable.
