This should not give pause a debate or any be controversial in itself. The collage athlete and sports culture are deeply rooted and inscribed in the culture that our nations poses. A thousand of games are practiced intercollegially with both young and old men. Millions of spectators who call have branded themselves as’ fans or fanatics flock into stadiums to watch various games that takes place. Some are always glued behind their televisions, radios and online news to help them catch up with the happenings. Basketball, football and athletics are among the games that sales at a higher rate across the world. Revenues from taxes and salaries are gunned with both nations and individuals from this game. And in most cases where money comes in the next epidermic to befall people is corruption and pride. Scandal after the other has taken all over the collage games an aspect that has led Hoop and Branch brand it the name of ‘the shame of college sports’. This is all as a result of money in college games (Branch, 1). The NCAA was created to help reform the plague that had attacked the human mind of reaping large sum of amount out of collage athlete but unfortunately its like it become embedded in the same habit. Most likely when we look at the three knight commissioners over a period of 20years then we should be able to tell on largely how they have been fruitless. We can ask ourselves why? , but all in all the time is now. The influence of money and corporate sponsorship in collages reveals that the underlying or secret agenda that is behind all this, Is the greed that people have towards money. Hood Dreams in his film talks about the two inner city kids that poses the dream of playing pro basketball. Their dream is cut short due to lack of funds that can help them see through their secondary education and into the collage. In fact one the kids' mother ask in the film if people have ever had the thought of how she stays. The question that lingers in the minds of people is why corporations can't come in at this time that the kids needs a helping hand at most. Branch approves the ideas of Hoop when he says in his book that what Vaccaro uttered in 2001 was true. Vaccaro once said that, the main aim of corporations to offer money is to benefit from the glory of collage sports men and women. He also goes ahead to say that even the universities are just at a distance watching to get its share. branch goes ahead to give us a breakdown of what one of the collages gathered in 2011. Despite of the dropping and the flattering economy as per that time, one of the collages through athletic league known as the football-crazed southern conference (SEC) cracked billions of dollars during that season. The collage registered itself among the first colleges to have gathered that amount of cash in a session of games. The money comes from different sources, that is the television contracts, merchandize, licensing fees, ticket sales and above it all it was all because of the efforts that those sportsmen and women were in the field playing. It is too embarrassing in the Hoods film when the young men are in the team despite of his injuries to get to the Marqette and he is promised a 4 year scholarship that includes also as an absentee in the fields. The only passport to let the boy have the scholarship is only to accept the offer. This gives us a mixed reaction about this offer. And truly all is but money that is to be extracted from this boy indirectly. To give the summary of what happened to the boy in the film, he gets a ligament reparation in his junior stage and on of the tone cartilages is removed. When he gets back into the court, he injures himself again. This shows that the boy needed some rest to help him heal from his wounds. This gives us the impression that once a sports man or woman in a collage you are like a slave. Where by you can be priced on the market for the customers to come and get you. Sportsmen and women are not slaves, but the corporations and universities enrich themselves on the fact that those are student athletes or basketball students(branch, 2). You can ask yourself why some of the games have received a world recognition and some still languish in the state of making themselves known. Basketball and football seem to have attained a world recognition. Corporations seem to be going around the world recruiting young boys into the basketball team and something embarrassing most is to find that in the film there is a group of 8 black boys who sleep in the same room. Out of these eight seven by then are basketball players. The question is if they are eight of them and seven of them are basketball players then it means, athletics have no say in the collage. Race as another virtue appears. There is racism going on in this collage sports. The NCAA has the main agenda of protecting student athlete. Today we can conclude that college players were not just a student athlete as it is termed but they were people who needed to be compensated both in the field and in their studies that what the NCAA made them to become just like signature term whenever in or out of the courtroom (Branch, 9). The NCAA decided to enact a sanity code that prohibited all the concealed and the benefits that athletes got indirectly from the college athletes, and made it clear that any money need was to be pure for scholarship and financial needs. this shows how the NCAA had failed in its role as a body that was supposed to guard the college athletes. Reason of all this was for it to collect funds from the college athletes. Gender in college sports. Why do women’s college sports continue to be far less visible in the media and public public discourse than men’seven when they are just as or more successful? There is this notion in almost every collage that mostly men games are given the lion's share. Maybe because there is more energy in their games than those of the ladies. Media too seem to have taken in consideration most men games than those of the ladies. This is a question that has truth of gender inequality. To help promote good relationship in any collage their should be gender equality in games. If there is football in a collage then let all men and women have t5heir chance to showcase c their talent. Maybe one or two people outside there like to watch the ladies play basketball and this should be the chance to let them enjoy what they like most. This helps in promoting relationship management and self esteem among the collage mates. Games are just games the only difference comes in on gender. The public then supports this idea by mostly evading women's sports. It is shaming to find out that Ohio and Oklahoma counterfeited grades to keep noticeable pampered players eligible in the team. Basketball too on the other hand had the tendency of gamblers paying players to perform poorly. This posed a great threat to the athletic team and yet this fund that was used to play this player could be used to open up a girls basketball team and promote womens sport The corporate influence in college sports. Corporations can play a good role in promoting or pulling down sports. Corporate in most cases has got the funds to keep the sports going. They should aim at improving college sports by trying to reduce corruption, preventing the sportsmen from the lures of money from other corporations and put in concern on how they approach the academic integrity. A corporation can anyone on board as long they have an agreement, we saw in the film the seven black boys sleeping in the same room in a collage, this shows how racism had taken up the minds of the people. They only concentrate on what they have to reap out of them and forgets about their emotions while at the college. Cooperation should therefore implement good race or gender relationships because all the sports man or woman works to the benefit of the corporation. Conclusion We have seen what happened in the book by Branch and the film by Hood as a percentage of it takes up on the theme of personal interests. Collage games as much as they generate cash , that should not be taken up as a tool of advantage but rather as a tool of benefit to both sides.
